I arrived in Orlando a little earlier this evening (my flight was actually half an hour early). Tomorrow I’ll be at the Houston-Cleveland game in Winter Haven. I’ll post an update sometime tomorrow, but I have no idea when. It may not be until later in the evening.
On another note, February was this blog’s highest traffic month to date, with more than 10,000 visits during the month. Thanks so much for your patronage.

I was driving home just a few minutes ago, and noticed an elderly woman out mowing her lawn. In February. When everything’s dead and brown.
I thought that was kind of strange, until I noticed the hat she was wearing. It was a Chicago Cubs hat.
That was all the explanation I needed. Suddenly it all made perfect sense.

Jeff Bagwell finished his injury-shortened career with 449 HR, 1529 RBI, 2314 H and a career .297 BA. In a rarity in baseball today, he played his entire career with the Houston Astros.
He won the MVP in 1994 and was a four-time All-Star.
Bagwell: HOF or not?
Discussed previously:
Mike Mussina
Pedro Martinez
Jim Edmonds
Fred McGriff
Juan Gonzalez

The stock market’s taking a beating today, if you haven’t noticed. The Dow has plunged more than 500 points.

A 1909 Honus Wagner tobacco card has sold for $2.35 million.
I knew I shouldn’t have traded mine back in 1990 for a couple of Jose Canseco rookie cards. Bummer.

Forgot to post this last night, so here it is.
Is Charles Logan being genuine in his attempts to help recover the nukes, or is this all a big facade?

From FOX News:
A Lutheran pastor in suburban Detroit looking for creative ways to discuss sex with his congregants has some people hot and bothered with his most recent tactic.
Epic Church Pastor Tim Kade, 40, kicked off the first Sunday in Lent with a sermon entitled, “The Greatest Sex You’ll Ever Have.”
He plans to focus on sex — topics such as frustrations couples face in their relationships and how to talk to kids about sex — every Sunday through April 1 at his Rochester Hills, Mich., church. Some sermon titles include: “The Bedroom: Battleground or Playground” and “Porn: What’s the Big Deal?”
Some are upset with what they consider to be the provocative nature of the content, including the “sexual permissiveness” of the church’s promotional material for the sermon series.
What do you think? Is this appropriate for a church or not?

I’ll be leaving for my annual spring training trip on Wednesday. Some of the players I’m targeting for stories this year are Cleveland’s Jake Westbrook and Trot Nixon, Pittsburgh’s Adam LaRoche, Houston’s Luke Scott, St. Louis’ Adam Wainwright and Kip Wells, Detroit’s Nate Robertson, and Florida’s Josh Willingham.
I expect to blog regularly while I’m in Florida.

I’m in the process of upgrading to a new version of Wordpress. I think everything’s fine, except for some of my link categories in the menu to the left. They’re showing up in blue text and a bigger font than I want, and I can’t figure out how to change them. It seems like I had this problem before and finally got it fixed, but so far I can’t remember what I did.
So, if anyone can offer any help, please let me know. Also, if you come across any bugs or problems, let me know that as well.
UPDATE: OK, I’ve noticed one problem. It looks like when you try to post a comment, you get a page that says something like “Fatal error: Call to undefined function: get_home_path() in /home/content/t/e/l/tellsworth/html/wp-content/plugins/sitemap/sitemap.php on line 355″
Even though this page is showing up, your comment should still be posted. I don’t know what’s causing this error, and I’m probably not going to be able to look into it until later today. Again, let me know if you know what I need to do to fix it. I appreciate your patience.
ANOTHER UPDATE: I think I’ve fixed the previous problem with the “fatal error” message. Let me know if you still have problems.

“Titanic” director James Cameron claims that the body of Jesus has been found.
In a new documentary, Producer Cameron and his director, Simcha Jacobovici, make the starting claim that Jesus wasn’t resurrected –the cornerstone of Christian faith– and that his burial cave was discovered near Jerusalem. And, get this, Jesus sired a son with Mary Magdelene.
No, it’s not a re-make of “The Da Vinci Codes’. It’s supposed to be true.
Cameron is supposedly relying upon evidence compiled from “DNA tests, archeological evidence and Biblical studies” that the coffins found belong to Jesus and his family.
DNA evidence from 2,000-year-old bodies? I think it takes more faith to believe in that than it does to believe in all the tenets of Christianity.

A funny Martin Luther story, from “The Reformation: How a Monk and a Mallet Changed the World,” a new book by Stephen Nichols:
He liked to recall a story of a burial of a Roman Catholic priest. As the body lay in the grave, those attending the service set down the holy water, which was to be poured into the grave. A dog happened by and did what dogs do into the bowl. Luther then delivered the punchline: “Even the dogs are becoming Lutheran.”
I’ll have more to write about this book in a few days.

“Amazing Grace,” the movie about William Wilberforce, opened today. It was well done. A few historical inaccuracies, but solid overall. I wish they had made his faith a larger part of the story. It was there, just not as prominent as it should have been. But this is Hollywood, after all.
I strongly encourage you to go and watch this movie. You’ll be blessed, and you’ll be supporting the kind of movie that Hollywood needs to make more often.

Mona Charen rightly condemns the early sexualization of children, and has some good advice for parents:
Fathers and mothers, protect your girls’ innocence. Take the TV out of their rooms. Monitor what they watch. Don’t purchase the racy clothes or music or movies. And try a dose of what Bill Bennett and Joe Lieberman attempted to do more than a decade ago — shame the purveyors of smut. Here we come to the conservative perspective. Popular culture, in all its crudeness, is the output of liberals. It is liberalism that for decades has rejected any protest as “censorship” or “McCarthyism.”

From AP:
A Democratic lawmaker has abandoned her heavily ridiculed campaign to make spanking a crime, acknowledging that the idea would get whacked even in California’s sometimes whimsical Legislature.
Instead, San Francisco Bay area Assemblywoman Sally Lieber introduced a more narrow bill on Thursday she said would help district attorneys more easily prosecute parents who cross the line from punishment into physical abuse.
Even with this bill’s death, I’m convinced this issue isn’t going to go away.
