Future memories

Hanging in my son Daniel’s room is a baseball rack that I’ve had since I was a little boy. It holds baseballs, bats, gloves, hats – pretty much all you need to play the game.

Hanging from that rack in his room is a small, soft, blue, toy baseball bat. It’s a bat that I see every day without thinking twice. But the other day, I did exactly that.

Skype

May 29th, 2008

Anybody use it? I’m trying to make some plans for my trip to China in a couple of months, and thought I might use Skype to make calls back home while I’m there. If you use it or have used it, I’d welcome your thoughts.

Or, if you have other suggestions for ways I can phone home cheaply, I’d love to hear them.

Guthrie: We’re not finished on abortion

May 27th, 2008

Good article from Christianity Today’s Stan Guthrie, in response to the growing number of evangelical Christians pushing abortion to the back burner in favor of other issues.

In other words, these and other voices seem to be saying that fighting legalized abortion—the deliberate, state- sanctioned taking of 50 million unborn human lives from their mothers’ wombs since 1973 (and the accompanying national guilt)—should simply be one item among many on an ever-expanding evangelical to-do list. I agree that we have multiple responsibilities as Christians, and different callings. But if everything is a priority, then nothing is. While no one is saying that defending unborn human life is optional, the way we sometimes talk about our broader agenda appears to minimize the importance of abortion.

David Cook would be my preference, but I think Archuleta is deserving as well.

Blog update

May 19th, 2008

I’m not sure what the future of this blog is going to be. To be honest, I’ve grown somewhat bored with the whole blogging thing. I don’t have any plans to retire it completely, but at this point I really have no idea how frequently I’ll be blogging in the weeks ahead.

Maybe I’m going through a temporary funk, and maybe it’s more permanent. I don’t know for certain right now.

Just wanted to give you an update, in case you wondered where I’ve been.
