Parenting for dummies

December 19th, 2007

Britney Spears’ mom Lynne has written a book on parenting to be published by Thomas Nelson. The book’s release will be delayed, however, after the news that her 16-year-old daughter Jamie-Lynn is pregnant.

Lynne Spears on parenting? Talk about a waste of ink and paper. What’s next? Paris Hilton on self-control? Bill Belichick on integrity? Charlie Weis on nutrition? Albert Mohler on baseball?

Maybe there’s still hope for my book on nuclear engineering. Time to give Thomas Nelson a call.

Let’s see if I have this right: Jamie-Lynn getting pregnant = parenting book on hold.

Britney spending half a decade in a drunken stupor, endangering children, and flashing her privates for a flock of photographers = no problem!

I can’t wait to read Barry Bonds’ forthcoming book on chemical-free living.

  2. Craig says:

Apparently mom allowed Jamie Lynn to live with the (presumptive) father. She’ll give Britney stiff competition for Mother of the Year.

I guess they (Thomas Nelson) will publish anything they can get a name with (Albert Mohler on baseball should be a big seller…Total depravity of the designated hitter, Unconditional roster changes, Limited number of pitches by the starter, Irresistable swinging at split-fingered fastballs, Perseverence of the Cubs fans).

All the serious theologians have moved to Crossway and P&R, and B&H is catching up.

AMEN! And let me add that Zondervan is schizophrenic (they don’t know what kind of books they want to publish).

As for Momma Spears, let me just say I heard enough stories from NOBTS students who had personal contact with the Spears family to know that a book on parenting was a laugher even before the elder Spears went off the deep end.

Apparently the book is not a how to on parenting, but is a memior and a warning to other parents. It’s kind of a how to in reverse. Still, I don’t think the lessons will be that profound.

  6. I’m sure that Thomas Nelson is wondering who would actually buy that book. It’s a good decision for them to not print something that would quickly turn into fireplace kindling or a bird cage liner..
