Does the SBC have a future?

April 25th, 2008

Nathan Finn tackles that question.

One Response to “Does the SBC have a future?”

I appreciate Finn’s article. I am not an SBC-er and never have been, but from an outsider’s perspective I appreciate his attitude. He is willing to be humbly and lovingly but also seriously critical of his own movement. That is what motivates us to change: Loving critique from those in our own camp. Not stones thrown from the outside (though we would be wise to consider what our critics bring against us, which it appears Finn has done), but conversation on the inside.

I thought his statement was interesting: “I love who we were. I struggle with who we are.” I might amend it to say “I love who we are. I struggle with who we are.” Though it is a bit contradictory, it seems like a healthy place to be within any organization, group, country, whatever. There are things we love about it. There are things we really have a hard time with. But, that doesn’t mean we pack our bags and split. For the love of the organization we stay to make it better, and that it might make us better as well.

    But, I digress.
