Go watch “Amazing Grace”
February 23rd, 2007“Amazing Grace,” the movie about William Wilberforce, opened today. It was well done. A few historical inaccuracies, but solid overall. I wish they had made his faith a larger part of the story. It was there, just not as prominent as it should have been. But this is Hollywood, after all.
I strongly encourage you to go and watch this movie. You’ll be blessed, and you’ll be supporting the kind of movie that Hollywood needs to make more often.
We plan on seeing this movie soon. I have been pleasantly surprised with some recent Biblical movies; particularly “The Nativity” and “One Night with a King”.
I was pleased with Amazing Grace, though I agree the the faith of Wilberforce was not portrayed as strongly as I would have liked. I was thrilled to hear Newton’s “I know but two things” line included though.
it even has a “fresh” rating from critics! (60% or better is considered fresh) -

Saw it. Loved it.
I loved that he was encouraged to fight for social justice BECAUSE he was a Christian, not instead of being a Christian. And Newton’s line “I know two things for certain: I am a great sinner. And Christ is a great Savior.” Gives me chills to hear it proclaimed on the big screen–not something you hear at the movies everyday.
We saw a matinee, by the way, and it was PACKED out, with a line waiting outside to get into to see the 7:00 showing.
