All of the people that produce this kind of parody do so as a result of jealousy.
They belong to KJV preaching churches whose pastors insist on wearing suits and ties while the organist plays something from the old Broadman hymnal half as fast as it should be played.
They’re not reaching anyone with the gospel or impacting their communities positively for Christ. But, BY GOLLY, their status is quo.
They’ve got all the answers. Unfortunately, it’s not to any of the questions that lost people are asking.
Now, before anyone gets all critical of what I just said….isn’t it fair for me to generalize all of the people who make these videos like they generalize all of the blue jean wearing pastors who serve coffee to their attenders?
I understand what Steven is saying. This may cross the line between poking fun and mocking. Plus, railing on mega-church pastors for making money is something exclusive to them. A lot of the Christian church in America has money issues. Check out the 990s of your favorite charity or radio ministry. Some of the guys are clocking major salaries.
I think it’s funny. I wear a suit and tie each Sunday, but I also use words like “dude” and give examples such as Hulk Hogan every once in a while. You’ve got to be able to laugh at yourself, and others sometimes too.
I guess my point was that not one side is right or wrong.
But poking fun of the way the other is dong and ending it with a phrase like “it’s all the reward you are going to get” it just a little over the top to me.
I went and watched some of the other videos of this “show” and they all seem to go after the same theme.
So I am not sure that this guy’s intent is to solely be funny but to make people hate Rob Bell and preachers that aren’t like him.
Mocking is a far cry from making people hate someone, Steven. That’s a serious charge to make against someone whose motives you can only guess from a couple of short video spoofs you’ve seen.
Hillarious and just like Washington, Lincoln, and Hamilton, right on the money.
Ya gotta love it!
I showed this to my class a week or so ago.
Its hilarious!
Check out also Mr Really, Really Bad preacher from the same folks.
Nice. I mean. Seriously.
So funny.
Poking fun at other Christians and churches because they worship a little different than you is fun!
I mean. After all. You know you are right.
Right?
Whatever. You. Say. Steven.
Don’t. Be. So. Serious. I mean. You know?
Right?
I’m just saying.
Seems that poking fun at “the church” isn’t such a cool thing.
I’m not being super sensitive. I’m just tired of it.
It is one of the many things the church has gotten bad about. The our side vs. your side mentality.
Just a pet peeve.

Ah, parody…the only thing better is a good pun. Ray, notice I said “good!”
My favorite is still Al Mohler playing Hangman.

i should have said “not” exclusive to them.

And that is where my anger lies.
Make people hate Rob Bell? Now who’s being over the top?
“I guess my point was that not one side is right or wrong.”
That’s because it’s not nice to say that someone else is wrong, that might hurt their feelings
Have you seen his other videos, Tim?
He mocks Bell on at least 2.
Ah, the legitimacy of laughter, and who should police it. Maybe The Name of the Rose is in view here.

Point taken.
But it goes back to my point of churches or people arguing amongst each other instead of just “doing your thing” and making a difference.
I wonder if a video on the “other side” would prompt such response…
What if there was a video spoofing churches that wore suits and ties and played organs?
I think the video’s funny, but I also wonder how many folks would be upset if we poked fun at the “old” way of doing things…
I just think it is time to move past the “my way vs. your way” mentality and get to the business of doing what God asked us to do.
Funny, yet in a way, a bit mean-spirited. Just as in the jungle, Christians devour their own rather than making the main thing, the main thing.
