A four-leaf clover

March 17th, 2009

Conversation yesterday as Daniel and I were playing catch in the front yard:

Daniel: Is tomorrow St. Patrick’s Day?

Me: Yes it is.

Daniel (looking down at the grass): Is this clover?

Me: Let me see. (I walk over to check). Yes it is. See how all of these have three leaves? Every once in a while you can find a clover with four leaves, but not very often. They’re hard to find.

Daniel: (About five seconds later) Like this one?

I’ve never once found a four leaf clover. Because of that, I feel cheated out of my childhood. :-D

That reminds me of the time I took my Mom to the Cubs game. We had stadium seats but I decided to splurge and have her experience the bleacher (aka Beer-Garden) section. I began explaining to her the unwritten rule at Wrigley: When the opposing teams hits a home run the ball is rejected and returned to the field of play. The next words out of my mouth were, “Just like this, watch.”

    The pitch was thrown…
The batter swung and we saw the ball begin to take flight, the sound of crack of the bat arrived moments later… as did the ball, only 3 rows ahead of us.
