Future memories
May 30th, 2008Hanging in my son Daniel’s room is a baseball rack that I’ve had since I was a little boy. It holds baseballs, bats, gloves, hats – pretty much all you need to play the game.
Hanging from that rack in his room is a small, soft, blue, toy baseball bat. It’s a bat that I see every day without thinking twice. But the other day, I did exactly that.
Fantastic Column! I think about those occasional times when I was “too busy” or distracted to spend the time they needed with me at that moment. The missed games I never played with them, the missed times wrestling on the floor, the missed times when they wanted to show me something they did. I think about all the good intentions of teaching them this or taking them there or reading them this. I can never get those opportunities back and their interests have moved on. Not to get all Cat Stevens sentimental and everything, but moments God gives us with our children help shape the memories my children will have of our family. I need to make the most of them and not forget that I am only privileged to have a short period of time with them.
Thanks, Richard.
Great column, Tim.
I echo the previous comments of a great column Tim. I am a father of 4 ranging from 9 - 17. The soft blue bats are no more but the memories are there forever and new ones are being made everyday. As parents we must cherish them and praise God for blessing us to be parents.
