A 6-year-old boy in Omaha, Neb., is in trouble for bringing a butter knife to school, and the Omaha Public School system is giving him one day of in-school suspension as part of its “no tolerance” weapons policy.

The boy’s parents think his 4-year-old brother put the butter knife in his backpack.

Are you kidding me? What kind of lunatics are running this school system? It was a butter knife, people. Look, I’m all in favor of being tough on kids who bring weapons to school, but let’s not throw common sense out the window here.

The family is pursuing legal action to prevent the suspension. I hope they’re successful.
