Favorite NES games
April 3rd, 2008
Over at Blogged Down World, while j razz is out of the country, Randy Riley is filling in. He just posted a great question: What are your top five games from the original Nintendo Entertainment System?
Go tell him what you think.
Hmm, a tough one, indeed.
Punch-Out is great, of course. Any of the Mega Man games deserves a spot on the list, as they are all pretty much the same anyway.
For a side scrolling brawler, I have to go with either Double Dragon II or Ninja Turtles III, either is a worthy entry.
For a solid platformer, I’d have to go with Super Mario Bros. 3, which in my opinion, is the best game for the system and one of the best ever made for any generation.
Now, what am I leaving out?
1. Super Mario Bros.
2. Excite Bike
3. Zelda
4. Mega Man (All of them)
5. Techmo Bowl
1. Mike Tyson’s Punch Out!!! (Nothing is as satisfying as beating Iron Mike)
2. Contra (Real men don’t use the Konami code)
3. Double Dragon II
4. Mega Man II
5. Tecmo Bowl (nothing like 80 yard heaves downfield!)
1 Zelda
2 Mega Man 2 (best video game music)
3 Wizards and Warriors
4 Super Mario Bros. 3
5 Gradius
Thanks for asking.
Hmm. I remember one Christmas I stayed up until 6am playing Baseball Stars, so that is in my top 5. Have to add Tecmo Bowl and Punch Out. I agree on Contra too.
I have had this site bookmarked for quite sometime: http://www.virtualnes.com/
Just reposting what I did over there:
Zelda
Tecmo Super Bowl
Super Mario 3
Baseball Simulator 1.000
Metroid
1. Zelda
2. Tecmo Super Bowl
3. Super Mario Bros. 2
4. R.B.I.
5. Tetris
We need to discuss favorite atari 2600 games too.
Tecmo Bowl
Marcus Allen and Bo Jackson couldn’t be stopped!
Mario 3
Mario
Punch Out
Contra
Bases Loaded (only because I stayed up playing it one Christmas like Zoner did with Baseball Stars)
Sheesh, none of you guys are truly old school. Read this and weep:
The Legend of Zelda
Metroid
Kid Icarus
Super Mario Bros.
Castlevania
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. There’s Gun.Smoke, Gyromite, Final Fantasy, Ikari Warriors, Mega Man, Metal Gear, Wizards & Warriors, Dragon Warrior, among others.
Ooohhh… I had completely forgotten about Metal Gear!!!
(My wife, standing over me as I type this, just huffed loudly and rolled her eyes.)
I guess I’ll show my age a little here. My wife and I bought a Nintendo soon after we got married, cheap entertainment. We only could afford a few games. Punch out was great and I would put Super Mario 3 up at the top. Zelda was cool to thats all we ever hadwas Tyson Mario 1 and 3 and Zelda. It provided us with hours of fun. I would more like to see what the top 5 list for the old Atari 2600 and Intelevision system thats what I played as a kid.
Hey what about Duck Hunt?
Duck Hunt was pretty cool. I did play that alot.
