How about that Grand Theft Auto 4? Personally I don’t know what to think. It’s hard for me to give it much thought because its only bits and bytes and computer driven animation. Its just hard for me to make the game relate to anything real. I’ll probably play it and enjoy it.

I have a friend who said he bought it and it shows what happens when you pay a prostitute for “services”. When you pay her, you get your health back. That game will never enter my house. I see no benefit in wasting my time on such a game as that. Apparently, sex, drugs, stealing, cheating, and killing does sell… to teenagers who’s parents apparently don’t care.

I played GTA: Vice City for about a week or two, then traded it back in. It’s not a very good racing/driving game, controls aren’t good enough to be a shooter, and the adventure element is only there if you’re a fan of thug culture.

Concerning the parents - I was working at EBGames when GTA: San Andreas released. Half of the kids there on release night were under 17 and required a parent, the majority of whom seemed more annoyed that they were having to stand there at the checkout counter and give their consent - one parent voiced to us how “ridiculous” it was and that we should put the names of the kids that had permission to buy M-rated games in the computer so they didn’t have to be there, too (his kids were 10 and 13). The youngest kid to go home with that game that night was maybe 7, who’s mother rationalized it away as “he’s too young to understand any of it. All he does is get in a car and drive around.” Some people…

I soon expect ‘Rockstar Games’ (part of Take Two software) to rename themselves ‘Pornstar Games’. Can it be that far behind? Remember the ‘infamous’ hidden porno scene - that just happen to get into a previous game … somehow?

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/4717139.stm

    >GTA’s publisher, Take Two, initially denied the scenes were part of the game but later admitted the scenes were contained in the retail version of San Andreas.

We can take a stand by not contributing to the ongoing cycle of supply and demand on this stuff. And when people ask you why you haven’t played the latest GTA - you can say that human degradation and violence is not a game.

  6. neuwman says:

Does any one care to take a stand in reality when it comes to our own leaders admitting they torture people? Take a stand and teach your children that no one is above or outside of any law. When are we going to hold our leaders responsible?

  7. Roger says:

What we take into our minds soon becomes reality - whether it’s influence from a video game or news report - because we’ll soon act on it. As a man thinks, so is he.

Torture is wrong. So is human degradation. Not because you or me said so, but because man is created in the image of GOD.

Some political action group is not going to see or say that. This is a matter of personal repentance - and church revival.

  8. Roger says:

Please be in prayer about this issue. Today is Pentecost - so it’s a powerful reminder that we NEED God’s Spirit. Pray that the Truth will be proclaimed and that it will result in many people being set free (body and spirit) from this modern day slavery. Pray for the protection of those going to speak at the capitol. Pray for those in the industry and its proponents - that their eyes will be opened to the realities of what it is doing to them and others.

Pray that God’s Spirit will move in a mighty way and that God will get the glory.

Speaking of violent video games such as grand theft auto, this 1.5 million dollar Harvard study says they are good for kids.

Some things never change. ;) Several years ago our parents saw the studies that ’showed’ cigarettes don’t cause cancer, but we NOW know they do.

Along those same lines, here’s the video from yesterday’s California Assembly committee meeting where a tax bill was discussed to pay for the secondary negative effects of the sex industry in California.

NOTE: There are several bills debated, fast forward to the 1 hour 40 minute marker… (AB 2914)

Who was it who did the big study on the Mormon church? Whoever it was check out this from Wikileaks. Its the top secret mormon handbook of instruction for church leaders.

Roger I do not disagree with that all this porn is bad and absolutely terrible to these women but when you label it as modern day slavery I have to disagree. There is a true modern day slavery going on right now. A trade of human sex slaves that never had the opportunity to make a bad choice or even get out. Children are stolen daily and sold into a world more extreme than any of the women you refer to or any any thing our we as American’s can imagine. I agree that the sex industry is horrible and I applaud you for opening up my eyes to the truth but don’t confuse it with the real deal slavery that still exists to this day. Things are bad but man it gets even worse. I wouldn’t be surprised if our legal sex industry has some ties to the illegal world of true slavery.

The things people are forced to endure, how much longer will God Spare our Nation?

  13. Roger says:

    Neuwman,

Nobody in this country will stand up and say they are for human trafficking but MANY see nothing wrong with the adult industry. It’s mainstream.

Think about the similarities between it and slavery:

    1) socially acceptable
    2) seen as just business
    3) involve the viewing of people as objects
    4) men in positions of power over others

Do adult industry workers choose the mental and physical abuse? Yet it still happens. The effects are still just as bad. And we hear the stories about how hard it is to get out given all the factors involved. And I’m sure the extremes of the sex industry in America will shock many.
For example, see the testimonies of those who have gotten out and have been bold enough to speak out:
    http://www.thoughtquotient.com/ex-porn-stars-speak-out/

Be encouraged though. God is alive and well. The sex industry is driven by men and I think God is looking for men to stand up and fight for women (wherever they see this kind of abuse). May we be obedient to the call.

And the human sex slave trafficking that you mention is no doubt being fueled in part by pornography:

To this same point, here’s a story about a girl I just read about. This is a totally safe link to go to.

Thanks Craig. I hadn’t heard that - I read on her wikipedia page that she went public with this just last Sunday! And she’s already preaching ….

Thats certainly uplifting. I still cant figure out what is in her lap. I think its a rabbit. but I’m not sure.

I still beg to differ somewhat with you roger on the slavery aspect, but whatever.

I read in the paper that Tim wrote a book. Are you going to go on tour with it Tim?

  18. Roger says:

    Neuwman,
Sorry to be so confusing in my earlier posts. I should have clarified. I’m speaking of slavery in terms of how the culture viewed it back in the mid 1800s in this country (perception vs the actual human realities).

Hey guys - would you do me a favor? Help me spread the word on the Erica Campbell story (get a free login to digg.com and give it the thumbs up). We need to be zealous for the truth like the world is zealous for temporary things. For years to come, the old Erica will continue to be used for profit by the pornographers. But Erica’s transformation and testimony shatter the illusion that porn is trying to keep going. God saved Erica for His glory (an amazing transformation - one minute she is one of the industry’s most popular and profitable girls - the next she is leaving it all and wanting to serve Christ and help her friends and fans). I was browsing around on digg.com and there are several adult pic posts of Erica that are getting voted for even now that she is out of the industry. They are voting for a LIE! More people need to hear her testimony. We will combat the lie with the truth (REALITY) - and it’ll set many people free! :)
