It’s Open Blog Friday
October 3rd, 2008We haven’t had an Open Blog Friday for a while. Talk about the playoffs or the presidential campaign. Talk about college football or whatever else floats your boat. Air your grievances. Consider this a Friday Festivus for the rest of us.
First comment today comes from my Palm Treo in a tree stand in beautiful southern Illinois….where we proudly cling to our guns and our religion!
Proudly cling to my gun and my religion.
Being in a tree stand would have the same effect on me.

That just seems SO wrong: Using a Palm Treo in a tree stand!
: )
I’m glad I’m not the only one that thought that, Di.
How can there not be a curse when ALL FOUR INFIELDERS COMMIT ERRORS IN THE SAME GAME! That said, the Cubbies still only need to win 3 in a row - and the CURSED Red Sox won 4. Don’t rest easy just yet Tim - though I know you (since you’re a faithful southern baptist) have the champagne knock-off on ice ready and waiting.
I came across this website again today:

We discussed it previously a couple of years ago.
I want to start an alphabet reform movement. We have too many letters in our alphabet. We should go down to 24 letters, eliminating ‘K’ and ‘X’. There serve no useful purpose. They just get in the way.
Down with K and X! Let reform begin!
I saw “white as snow.”
Now all I can see is “white a** now.”
What does THAT mean?!
Brett,
I’m with you on the reform movement. But I’d keep the K and drop the following:
- C (replaced with ’s’ or ‘k’ as appropriate, i.e. dise, kat)
- X (replaced with ‘ks’ or ‘z’, i.e. aks, zylophone)
- Q (replaced with ‘kw’, i.e. kween)
jwd,
You are right about the Q. I had forgotten about Q, thanks for reminding me.
No can do on the C. The “ch” sound as in chair, cannot be reproduced in any other way.
Thanks to my good friend jwd, the alphabet reform movement has been reformed:
We should go down to 23 letters, eliminating ‘K’ and ‘X’. There serve no useful purpose. They just get in the way.
Down with K, Q, and X! Let reform begin!
It’s tempting to drop to 22 and remove “F” as well since “PH” can substitute for it. Some people have already begun the transition (i.e. phishing). But to remove a popular letter and replace it with two letters doesn’t seem prudent.
Should read above:
We should go down to 23 letters, eliminating ‘K’, ‘Q’, and ‘X’.
I am totally against this surging movement!
Dr. Brad Green on politics:

Does Sarah Palin have what it takes? Maybe not.
Has anyone seen the new movie Fireproof yet? We went to see it a few days ago. I thought it was an excellent movie and highly recommend it to everyone.
We did Verne - our church bought out a couple of showings last weekend. One of my buddies put it best - “it’s like a Lifetime movie, but with a far better message.”
Dodgers baby!
NLCS bound!

I doubt many here can handle this.

Handle it? Yes. Agree with it? No.
The only way this argument can be legitimate is if there is a perfect candidate. Unless the Lord Himself runs in an election, we will always be voting for the lesser of two (or three) evils.
After 100 years…
The end of Cubs fandom?

Not. Figure on Scoop Jackson for a column like that.
Spoken like a true fan, The Zoner. You have my respect, sir.

That last article is good. that guy calls it what it is.
Thank you Adam!
Thanks Adam!!
I like Cal Ripken as a studio analyst. He’s got an appealing way of speaking and talking about the game. Very impressive.
Has anyone here done any research on the “America’s Independent Party”? Alan Keyes is their candidate.
Check it out at
