How much is that PPV stuff Chuck. There was I time I could watch that but my days are over. I really like the UFC. You might could download it later on the internets.
I have to rejoice where I can as a Red Sox fan so Big Props to Big Papi for breaking the DH HR record in a season (47) and for breaking Jimmy Foxx’s Red Sox HR record of 50 in a season with #51 and #51 last night.
If he leads the AL with HR and RBI’s he should be considered for the MVP despite the team record. Remember Andre Dawson’s MVP year with the last place Cubs?
So, Len, Ortiz hit #51 twice last night? I believe that’s unprecedented. Just kidding, of course. If not for injuries, both he and Pujols would be very near 60, just like Ryan Howard.
Ortiz is young (29) and strong, and in the ‘04 World Series (against my & Tim’s Cardinals) he played some pretty good first base. Why doesn’t he play there full time? To borrow a word,……Crikey! They let Mo Vaughn play 1st in Boston for years.
I won’t watch on PPV but I am a huge fan. I actually might be doing a podcast on MMA soon. I look for Hughes to beat Penn. The best fight on the card might be Lambert and Evans.
Thanks for the reminder, Tom! I’m a little unmotivated in light of the fact I’m WAAAAAYYYYY behind now! But I did advise Tim to pick the Jags last week. Of course, he didn’t listen. Actually I think my advise was late.
Over at SIUE, a good number of my friends are from Hillsboro — Hughes’ hometown. I was kinda hoping one of them would throw down the $40 so I could see the fight, but no dice thus far.

Just kidding Joel. I love boxing, but I do believe there is more strategy involved in MMA (mixed martial arts) which is what is fought in the UFC. Right now I don’t have a good name for it.
MMA is basically much safer. You’re not getting hit in the head 400 times in a fight. It’s great because of submission moves/jiu jitsu/boxing/wrestling/muay thai are all involved. I was a huge boxing fan and now I can barely watch it after being hooked on MMA for a few years now.
Hughes is definitely my favorite and he is a Christian too.
The Cardinals just lost another lead late in a game. It’s very frustrating to me as a fan. If they can’t hold a lead against a team as mediocre as the Astros, they have NO chance in the playoffs.
The Cardinals’ ownership is apparantly very satisfied hearing every Spring, “Your Central Division champions…” because they are flat out not making the right moves each year to take it to the next level.
The difference, Tom, is that Cardinals fans don’t whine until late in September. Cubs fans are already looking to next season in late April….dear brother.
Wow! The Cards are holding on to their division lead but would be in 4th place in the AL East or Central and 3rd in teh AL West! The NL sure does look bad in a comparison having only 5 teams over 500 (as of today) while the AL has 9 (3 in each division)!
I am placing a challenge to all on the board, I am currently placing my entire sports card collection up for sale to benefit different charities. To make it even better I am going to add a little humor to the sorting process. I want you guys to associate an athlete with a paticular charity, for any reason–just post the player, charity and reason.
Heres some I have so far
J.J. Redick - M.A.D.D.
Bonds, Canseco, Caminiti, etc - Taylor Hooton Steroid Foundation
Just keep it in good taste. Let me know what you what you come up with.
Is anyone watching Matt Hughes and BJ Penn in UFC 63 tomorrow night on PPV?

The fight is $39.95. I believe there are five fights listed on the card, but Hughes - Penn is the main fight.

Hey football fans. Don’t forget to choose week 3 NFL contest in Yahoo. Reading this, Brett????
Jags/Colts should be a good one

I havea question.
If boxing is the “sweet science” then what is the UCF?
UCF is the Unversity of Central Florida.

missed that typo, oops. Since they let Mo play there, they’d probably rather not let Ortiz.

Anybody know where Todd Worrell is? Maybe they could sign him to a 10-game contract as closer. I’ll take him over the stiffs they have now.

Any Cardinal whiners wanna trade with us Cub fans? Didn’t think so.

Tom,
I can’t get to your blog page. What’s up?
Internal Ecclesiastical Sabotage.
I will return one day - in a different incarnation. Blessings is dead. You can remove it from your blogroll.
A dark day Tony. Thanks for your support. When I resurface, I will let you know my brother.

That is why the AL wins the All Star game every year and wins home field advantage in the World Series. Thanks, Bud.
