My wife and I brought home our new puppy last night. He is a minature Daschund (sic), born August 8, and his name is Bobo. We named him after the PetSmart commercial featuring the full size Daschie with his favorite toy, which the man at PetSmart called Bobo. He is sooooo cute. But last night was his first night without his brother, sister, and mom & dad. We put him in a carrier because we have an 8 year old cat…..who doesn’t really know what to think yet. He cried, and cried, AND cried. The challenges lie ahead. He will be worth it though. God bless you all this weekend.
Bob, you need to give Bobo a kitten. It would be a companion that is smaller than he is, so he won’t be scared, and in a pinch would make a great snack.
Here’s your weekly reminder to choose your picks in week 4 NFL Yahoo game. I do this as a public service. It actually benefits me to have a few of you (Marty, Joel) get all caught up in other things and forget to do this but I suspect most will remember.
Most interesting match-ups?
Chargers/Ravens, Dolphins/Texans and 49′ers/Chiefs.
LOL Gordon. Wonder if the kitten would taste like chicken……..
Our cat is soooooooo fat……(how fat is she?)
…..standing next to Bobo, she looks like Templeton the rat [from Charlotte’s Web] after his night of binge eating at the county fair.
Tom, for what it’s worth, I miss reading your blog. Hope things clear up at some point so you can resume.
Aw shucks, Bob, thanks. I’ shall return - incognito with lots more fun and this time the gloves will come off. I appreciate everyone who has sent well wishes. As many have said - God is sovereign.
Thanks Tim. By the way, new post at Random Meanderings.
When you share pics of your children, I admit to being a bit “jealous” as well. I am learning that even if I am not the parent of a child, I can still encourage and love them as a Christian should do. There is a little girl who comes to our AWANA and VBS programs. Her name is Emily. She is, I think, 6 years old. Whenever she sees me, she runs to me for a great big hug. She will never know how much that simple gesture touches my heart. Those of you who are daddies, that must be the best feeling ever.
I make picks on 3 games every Friday at my site. 5-4 so far on the season.
FWIW:
Houston +3. Why is Miami favored over anyone–let alone on the road?
Bears -3. Everyone raving about Hasselbeck; hooray. He did nothing against Detroit and the Giants D is weak. Wait until he sees the Bears D at Soldier Field. He’ll be changing his pants at halftime.
NE +6 against the Bengals. I think they can keep it close if not win outright.
I would take Houston and the points.
I’ll take the Bears and Bengals and give the points.
Bob - I also did not have children for a long time and longed for them greatly. I also found myself finding that comfort with my friends’ children. I think that is wonderful. God bless you brother!
Yo Zoner… You’re right. That document was something else… I particularly loved the comment
“Christian, Buddhist, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Jain, Sikh and Ethical Humanist–will converge Sunday to celebrate their harmony as one in humankind and share Communion.
“Divinity is a mighty river that cannot be dammed up or stopped,” explains irreverent Rev. Bob Thompson, 57, borrowing a quote from Meister Eckhart, a 14th Century Christian mystic. “We all do drink from the same river, but we package the water differently.”"
What what point does someone long for children? I’m 26 and have no desire for them. I can tell my heart is softening a little but I still don’t look at them and say I want one of my own.
Also Check out my frist webpage I built for my church. Its not 100% complete but after 4 months of learning and working on it, I think its a good start! I just published it two days ago and revised it last night. Let me know if anyone has problems. Some pages are blank on purpose.

NO BUCK O’NEIL, this is the biggest joke in the world!!!
The writers should be compelled, forced even, to select Tommy John & Bert “Be Home” Blyleven to the HOF. It is not right that men with 288 & 287 career wins, respectively, are not enshrined in Cooperstown.
Tom, did your board require you to cease and desist ALL blogging, or only the blog you had before it was shut down? If they meant ALL blogging, then even a secret blog would be “disobedience.”
Whoo-hoo! Be glad you don’t live in Southeast Georgia folks, I’m a licensed driver now. After much anticipation and, [ahem], failing the drivers test, I passed. So, giddyup minivan!
You know, Chuck, I don’t know how, but you’re not the only one that makes comments about the Cards kicking it in gear during the postseason… I think ESPN.com had an article that ended with something like…
“Only a bunch of losers would start winning now.”
Obviously, drawing reference from the BoSox and their season drama.
I am banking on the Cards realizing they are very fortunate to be where they are and they are not going to blow it. We just played 3 close games with the Pads and should have swept them. Carp and Soup will be solid and neither will drop a game in this series.
Zoner, I thought that was a pretty good analysis, right up until the last sentence when he mentioned “Ron Flores”. Not that anyone outside of St. Louis actually knows the names of Cardinal relievers, but the least he could have done was research enough to know that Ron Flores doesn’t even play for the Cardinals. A flub like that makes it pretty clear that his knowledge of the Cardinals extends as far as the highlights he watches on ESPN. Sure, it doesn’t take a genius to see that the Padres are the clear favorites to win, but if you’re going to break down the matchup and have any shred of credibility, do your homework. I would be embarrassed if I couldn’t even get the players’ names right.
I thought it was a fair analysis for someone who doesn’t watch the Cardinals. I agree that he probably get his opinions from watching ESPN. To say that Suppan needs to pitch the game of his life is a bit stretching it. All he needs to do is be Jeff Suppan and he will have the Redbirds in position to win.
Mr. Law simply got former Tiger outfielder Ron LeFlore and STL lefty Tyler Johnson mixed up. The result: Ron Flores. A left handed thrower who can steal you 70 or 80 bases. LOL LOL LOL
Also if you at all think you might want to agree with any conspiracy theories think twice because you might be a terrorist if you do agree with them. Check out The terrorism we confront today springs from: points found at the whitehouse webpage.
Basically they’ve given themselves an out for rights violations of the detainees. Not to mention they have people locked up for years now who have never been charged or tried.
Newman, if it wasn’t so sad that the folks from that site may die without Him, that site would almost be funny. While reading some of their “proof” that God doesn’t exist, I found most of it quite humorous because of how rediculous it is. I especially liked the converstion between the two guys in “Proof #18: Heaven is Imaginary.” Give me a break.
Love my new job.
Cardinals stink. Chiefs stink. My flea flicker fantasy football team stinks.
Big high school football game tonight. Anna-Jonesboro hosts DuQuoin in a clash of 3A IHSAA top 10 powerhouses.
God is sovereign and all is well.
The glass is NOT half full.
God’s on His throne, all’s well with the world.
It certainly isn’t.
He certainly is.
It certainly is.

Tom those three matchups you mentioned are the ones that I keep going back and forth on. I think they’re the toughest to call this week.
But Tom, if you’re incognito, how will we know it’s you?
Hey Tom, I got my picks in a long time ago.
Tim,
He’ll be the one wearing the Groucho Marks glasses!
I’m jealous, Bob. A new puppy. How fun. You’re gonna have a blast.
Thanks Tim. By the way, new post at Random Meanderings.

True, Bob which is why the next incarnation aint gonna happen til the next church - so don’t hold yer breath, pardner - could be awhile.
Thanks for watchin out for my integrity

Haha, thanks Cameron.
Cards v. Pads series starts Thursday. Any predictions?
Tim??
Pads in four, but a San Diego sweep wouldn’t surprise me either.
Tim, the post season is a new season. Cards in 5.
You know, Chuck, I don’t know how, but you’re not the only one that makes comments about the Cards kicking it in gear during the postseason… I think ESPN.com had an article that ended with something like…
“Only a bunch of losers would start winning now.”

I’m still doubtful, but I could be convinced…
I agree Tim. They didn’t blow their lead but they are stumbling (and bumbling) uncontrolably into the playoffs.
I am banking on the Cards realizing they are very fortunate to be where they are and they are not going to blow it. We just played 3 close games with the Pads and should have swept them. Carp and Soup will be solid and neither will drop a game in this series.
Chuck is drinking the Cardinal Kool-Aid! But good for you man–that’s being a hardcore fan.
However, I think the series is summed up nicely right here:

Keith Law is pretty solid. He writes for Baseball Prospectus. I give him a mulligan on that one.
Carp & Soup? Hmmm, sounds yummy
