Wow, I’m never first. Everyone else must be up to their necks in snow, as we are in Chicago!

Question: Andy Pettite is scheduled to testify before a Congressional committee next week. Will he do the right thing and tell the truth? Or will he protect Clemens instead? Or is there nothing to tell?

  2. I’m #2!

Yeah…there’s just no setting where that phrase plays well.

  3. Leland says:

Tony, your comment brings to mind something I read a few months ago. “The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.”

I’ll give that a second to sink in…

New post at my blog, which now has pictures of our little family; myself, my wife, and our pets. Check it out if you’ve got a few minutes to kill.

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up on a movie that’s out now. “There Will Be Blood” Magnificent! Daniel Day Lewis… there is no better actor alive.

    Cineaste,

I have heard mixed things about that movie. I think I want to go see it though. What were some of the high points, without giving anything away?

  7. Cineaste says:

“There Will be Blood” is based upon the novel by Upton Sinclair who wrote the American classic, “The Jungle.”

J, I think the high point is the central character, Daniel Plainview, who is masterfully portrayed by Lewis as both likable and despicable at once. It’s just a powerful and intense movie about the oil business and a man who’s drive and willpower are far beyond that of most people, and the price he paid, willingly, for that. It’s nominated for 8 academy awards including best picture.

    Here is the trailer…

    There Will Be Blood

It’s not a movie you go and see to be entertained. It’s an experience. At least, for me it was.

Thanks Cineaste. I think I will go and see it. Thanks for the link to the trailer.

  9. I just saw Tim Ellsworth on Fox & Friends!

    That’s national, baby!

He reported that in all the wreckage, no loss of life at Union University.

    Praise The Lord!

“For Fox News, this has been Tim Ellsworth reporting…”

  10. Sarah says:

Everyone in the Ellsworth household is fine and we had no damage to our home last night. We ask that you pray for Union at this time.

  11. j razz says:

Union was hit extremely hard and prayer is definitely a worth while use of time. I don’t know how else to explain it, but when you look at the pictures of the destruction (and see it with your own eyes) it is nothing short of a miracle that no one died.

We had several people over and we huddled in our basement and prayed for those at Union and around the surrounding areas. We recieved several text messages from students stating that dorms were collapsing along with others saying that people were trapped while others were okay. We are thankful to our Lord that no one died and that He did indeed answer our prayers.

  12. j razz says:

Just so you know, Tim has done an excellent job of directing the media at Union and giving reports.

I appreciate what you have done Tim.

    Cineaste,

I went and saw There will be Blood. I was unimpressed by the plot development and the dialogue. Granted the acting was good, but that is about all I had to say that was good concerning the movie.

Normally I love watching documentaries and movies that engages one’s mind in thinking about things outside themselves, but I just didn’t feel that this movie did that well. Very choppy. It was like you were waiting for that ah ha moment and it never came.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

  14. Cineaste says:

Ah well, that’s too bad you didn’t like it. It is nominated for Best Picture. The other one that will probably win, (my prediction) is “No Country for Old Men.” We’ll see if I’m right.

  15. j razz says:

I really do want to see “No Country for Old Men”. Have you seen it yet? It looks like a movie I would really like.

I may go see it or just wait until it comes out on BluRay.

  16. Cineaste says:

Yes, “no Country for Old Men” is very good as well. I loved it. It’s by the Coen brothers. Did you like “Fargo,” “Raising Arizona,” “the Hudsucker Proxy,” or “Miller’s Crossing?” Same guys.

  17. j razz says:

I have only seen “Raising Arizona” and I did like it. “No Country for Old Men” seems like it has a compelling story line from what I have read and having good actors never hurts. I may have to look up the others and read a synopsis on them.

    I love Miller’s Crossing.

We actually went to see “There Will Be Blood” last Monday. I walked away torn as well. I thought Daniel Day Lewis did an awesome job. And the movie was moving along at a nice clip. But somewhere along the way, I started not even being able to tell what I was watching. Like where did the plot go? Lewis’ character seemed to go crazy or something, and for all the movie when he was in control, for some reason basically lost it. Plus, I wasn’t even sure what exactly to tell someone if they asked what it was about. The oil business? A guy? A false prophet? Etc… Towards the end of the movie I started checking my watch because I couldn’t tell enough what exactly the plot was to know if we were close to wrapping it up. All in all though, I’d give it a 3 out of 5 because of Lewis’ acting performance.
