It’s Open Blog Friday
February 29th, 2008Don’t know if there are many folks still around, but Open Blog Friday is back. Today’s topic: Baseball predictions for the upcoming season. I’ll start with my NL predictions:
NL East-NY Mets
NL Central-Chicago Cubs
NL West-Arizona Diamondbacks
NL Wild Card-Atlanta Braves
Feel free to make your predictions, or to bring up any other topic you’d like.
Call me crazy but I’m going to go with the Red Sox to win the AL East. Go Sox! (Glad you are semi-back Tim)
I agree with those predictions - the Santana signing was pretty big for the Mets.
Speaking of baseball, what’s the what with a fantasy league this year?
I know it pained you Tim to pick the Cubs, but I have to agree. The Cards are going to struggle to post 75 wins this season, I think. I wish it were not so, but that’s how I see it.
On the other hand, wouldn’t it be something if Ankiel starts in center and Juan Gonzalez in right, and they each had 30 HR and over 90 RBI? Oh, that’s right, guys have to get on base for that to happen. What are they thinking signing Cesar Izturis?
OOOOOOHHHHH! Jimmy Rollins is gonna be mad at you. On the other hand, Carlos Beltran will probably want to buy you a steak dinner.
Good to have you back. Y’all have been in our prayers.
misawa,
Chris mentioned something in the other thread about putting a league together. I’m not going to be able to do it this year. Once I hear back from him, I’ll post the info for those who would like to participate.
Pirates take the wild-card and blaze through the playoffs sweeping each series and then sweep the Yankees to take it all.:-). OOPS that was my fantasy pick. In real life, I am not an expert on baseball (I guess in fantasy I am no expert either) so don’t laugh to much at my picks.
East - Mets
Central- Cubs
West - Rockies
Wild Card - Dodgers (I think Toree will impact them)
Tim,
Glad to hear things are getting back to normal (somewhat) for you all.
NL East - Mets
NL Central - Cubs
NL West - Dodgers
Wildcard - Phillies
Any AL predictions?
You think the Cubs will repeat as division champs? I hope so but I’m not holding my breath. As a Cub fan, it’s traditional to start off with low expectations and adopt a wait and see approach. I don’t like their starting pitchers except for big Z.
Hey everybody - it’s been a while.
I thought I’d chime in. I don’t think an NL East team can win the Wildcard. With the Braves, Mets, and Phillies all looking strong and somewhat evenly matched, I think they will beat up on each other, lowering the win amount. I think the winner of the NL East will have around 88-90 wins. The second place team probably won’t have a shot at the Wild Card because of this; as they might finish with 85-87 wins.
NL East - Braves (Did you really expect me to pick anyone else? Although, whoever wins won’t win by much.)
NL Central - Cubs
NL West - Dodgers
Wildcard - Rockies
Cineaste — I’m trying to jinx them.
Luke — Here you go:
AL East: Boston
AL Central: Detroit
AL West: Anaheim
AL Wild Card: Seattle
This is really weird, but I had a dream last night about watching the NY Yankees winning the Series. It was like the fifth inning of Game 7 and they were rolling. You heard it here first.
Craig has clearly started doing recreational drugs.
