Off to T4G
April 14th, 2008I’m leaving this afternoon for Louisville, Ky., and the Together for the Gospel conference. Not sure what kind of Internet access I’ll have over the next few days, so blogging may be light. I hope to see some of you there.
Standing Together 4 Calvinism. Wish we could have made it but in God’s Sovereign grace we were restrained.
Just got back. I’d love to hear from anyone else what they thought was the best parts.
For me it was Sproul and Piper opening up their weaknesses. Sproul saying that he was working on making application and Piper saying he was a chicken when it came to evangelism really showed a human dimension to a few guys who have super-human gifting. Very good conference.
Mark,
Wow, the best part. Hmmm…could I just say all of it. The worship music was terrific and extremely well prepared to coincide with the particular messages. Day 3 was clearly the crescendo, though - Piper and Mahaney. Piper exhorting us to suffer for and with Christ and Mahaney challenging us to serve our congregations with Joy.
But honestly, every message was timely and worked in my heart to remind me to teach sound doctrine, seek racial (I mean ethnic) reconciliation, evangelize appropriately, and uphold core doctrines like penal substitution against criticism.
Oh, and Bruce, as for your phrase, “Standing Together 4 Calvinism,” I think you ought to know that apart from John MacArthur’s message on Total Depravity, there wasn’t a single sermon that any other conservative Evangelical holding to Orthodoxy couldn’t have heartily said “AMEN!” to.
I agree. Picking a best part is nearly impossible. Those two things just meant alot to me. Everything was very good. I loved how Mahaney told us to transition from conference life to real life. So true. That keeps us from disappointment. I loved the books we got. I started Young, Restless, Reformed and The Gospel and Personal Evangelism. Both have been very good.
It was good to finally meet you Tim.
Best part for me was the times of rich fellowship with the guys I came with. The conference left me with a fresh awareness of the centrality of the cross and a deeper appreciation for the Savior. Sproul’s message was, in my view, particularly rich and poignant, and the Thursday messages really did close things with a bang.
