The Great Raid

May 29th, 2006

We watched “The Great Raid” last night, and it’s one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time. It’s based on the true story of the rescue of 500 Americans from a Japanese POW camp in the Philippines during World War II.

Very appropriate for Memorial Day weekend. If you’ve never seen it, do yourself a favor and pick it up.

  1. I agree, this is a good movie. We watched it back in the fall I think.

  2. Jim Toms says:

I can’t do that. It would glorify war which is opposed to Biblical teaching. Please post something more positive next time.

  3. misawa says:

The movie was good, the book is fantastic - Ghost Soldiers by Hampton Sides.

  4. Brett says:

Has it been around for awhile, or is it a new release?

  5. misawa says:

The movie is less than a year old; the book’s been out for 3 or 4 years.

  6. Didn’t War do the ’song Low Rider’ Tom?

  7. RAID stands for Redundant Array of Independent Disks and is a great tool for on-site data backups.

HI Tim! Kelly Boggs just told me of your website. He said it’s the best example he’s seen.

About movies, women especially will love Paradise Road about women in a Japanese POW camp.

  9. Also good, “Saints and Soldiers” and “To End All Wars”. If you like old ones try “The Longest Day”.
