Bob Dole speaks at Union
September 29th, 2005
Bob Dole visited campus Tuesday night for Union’s annual Scholarship Banquet, and I got the chance to shake hands with him and visit for a few seconds. You can read the story about his comments here.

You don’t look comfortable shaking left handed. I wouldn’t be either.
Didn’t bother me a bit. Senator Dole paid quite a price in service of his country, and it was an honor to meet him, even if it meant shaking left handed.
Okay, first Chuck Colson, now Bob Dole.
And let’s not forget the many sports stars you’ve met.
Can it get any better for you, Tim?
If you get James Dobson, I just may have to drive up there for a visit.
I remember my grandmother saying, way back in the 1970s, that she didn’t trust Bob Dole because “he has shifty eyes.” I found this sorta funny, somehow — but I didn’t agree with her. I think he would have made a good president, and I respect the years of service he gave his country, in the armed forces and in Congress.
I am proud to have voted for Mr. Dole in ‘96 at the Union U. precinct. (Which for some reason wasn’t on campus. Yet everyone there was a student. Weird.)
Tim,
Did you refer to youself in the third person when you were introduced to him? “Bob Dole doesn’t back down from anybody. I know it,you know it, the American people know it.”
Congratulations on a great event. I wanted to come but we could find someone foolish enought to keep 4 kids!
