Journalism at its finest.

Nice to see how well Colorado State University is doing in its journalism instruction. Sheesh.

“While we understand (the editorial) is upsetting and offensive to many people, CSU is prohibited by law from censoring or regulating the content of its student media publications,”

Yeah right. Let’s see how long THAT would hold up if someone with the point of view that homosexuality is wrong or that abortion is murder wanted to do an op-ed piece espousing their views. I’m sure they would find it too offensive to publish and would immediately censor and regulate it.

These types are all in favor of publishing garbage like this and then hiding behind journalistic freedom as long as the right kind of people are being offended by it. However, their commitment to journalistic freedom fades quickly when one of their sacred cow groups is the one taking offense.

What I loved about this story is the shock from the paper’s staff when they lost thirty grand worth of advertising dollars. Sure, they have a right to print whatever they want, but don’t complain when people don’t want to spend money on their paper anymore.
Perhaps this is one of the reasons why newspaper readership is declining by the day.

I believe that people have the right to their political opinions and the free expression of them; even those who may not agree with me. What crosses the line, though, is when it (always) degenerates to this name calling garbage, or, in this case, violence. I hear this kind of stuff a lot. Liberals think all conservatives are idiots and conservatives think all liberals don’t have any morals, both of which are blanket generalities and not true. i dont take issue with the authors political fervor or view, only that he resorts to violence and name calling to communicate it.

I think the editors of the CSU Collegian just guaranteed themselves standing job offers from the New York Times.

He left out Chaney, Chertoff, Gates and Rice to name a few.
