McCain picks Palin

John McCain has selected Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. Way to go, John. This is a stroke of genius.

Outstanding choice.
I was telling my wife on Mon or Tues night that he may pick her. I’m glad he did.
I looked her up. Good pick to fire up pro-lifers.
He didn’t want to run with another old white guy. Plus, by picking a woman I bet he hopes to cherry pick a few more of the Hillary voters (at least those who are only interested in “breaking through the 2nd highest glass ceiling”).
Finally! Encouraging news! And with the socialist only receiving a 6-point poll bump from the recent convention I am even more encouraged!
I’m a conservative who is fired up about this campaign for a lot of reasons.
1. She’s pro traditional family
2. She’s pro 2nd amendment
3. She’s a fiscal conservative
4. She’s young
5. She’s not a Washington insider
6. She has more executive branch experience than Obama and Biden combined
7. AND she’s pro-life
Deal with it, Cineaste. This isn’t a one-issue maneuver.
I’m finally excited about voting and I have friends who were not going to vote who will probably will.
“Deal with it, Cineaste. This isn’t a one-issue maneuver.”
Ya? Would you vote for her ticket if she was …
1. She’s pro traditional family
2. She’s pro 2nd amendment
3. She’s a fiscal conservative
4. She’s young
5. She’s not a Washington insider
6. She has more executive branch experience than Obama and Biden combined
7. AND PRO-CHOICE
Number 7 trumps 1 - 6.
I’m old and I’m excited now!
Cineaste, why would you insist that we see things your way? I’m thankful this is still the land of the free and we Christians can stand up for what WE believe in.
good job Marilyn, i think Cineaste just means that # 7 is the most important and we have all the rest to be gratefull for!
“Cineaste, why would you insist that we see things your way?”
I’m trying to see things your way. Is this true for you or not?
Would you vote for her ticket if she was …
1. She’s pro traditional family
2. She’s pro 2nd amendment
3. She’s a fiscal conservative
4. She’s young
5. She’s not a Washington insider
6. She has more executive branch experience than Obama and Biden combined
7. AND PRO-CHOICE
My thinking is that the answer is NO, you wouldn’t. If I’m wrong about that though let me know so I can see it your way.
I’m more excited that she understands how tax policy relates to the economy. I was prepared to vote for Giuliani, so, as for me, draw your own conclusions.
I’ve never been excited about McCain, but I like this choice a lot. His campaign has been very smart so far.
Agreed. I think it was not only a smart pick, but a bold one as well.
Way to go McCain! Now, I’m excited to vote!
What if she was everything you like in a candidate, Cineaste, EXCEPT that she was staunchly pro-life….would you vote for her?
You can’t tell me that you see all issues equally. You and those of your ilk accuse the right of being a one-issue party. Please!
I heard the pundits saying today that Hillary supporters will consider voting for McCain / Palin, but might not be able to get past the fact that she’s so hard-line pro-life. Hmmmmm……
Hey “pot”, “kettle” here……you’re black, too!
“What if she was everything you like in a candidate, Cineaste, EXCEPT that she was staunchly pro-life….would you vote for her?”
Yes. I was pushing for Chuch Hagel to be Obama’s pick. You can search this site for verification of where I said that since you doubtless don’t believe me. Stick that in your cap and smoke it!
I don’t mind prioritizing my issues. I’d gladly give up my gun if it meant that Roe v. Wade would be overturned. I don’t care that she’s young. I don’t care that she’s a Washington outsider. I don’t care how experienced she is. Compaired to the convenience killing of abortion, these other issues are pale in comparision.

She does know how to talk smack about those Minnesota Northstars! Maybe that’s why they left town and went to Dallas? And if you were wondering, Tim, the Northstars were an NHL team… you know, the National HOCKEY League?

Pay attention, women, what a shame it would be to pass on this opportunity! You may not agree on all the issues, but she’s decent, she crosses aisles, she fights corruption and inequities wherever she runs into them…and add to that–she has an excellent record to prove it. A woman of character/integrity. Doesn’t sound all that bad.
Uh oh, my previous post didn’t go through!
Anywhere, HERE is what I’m talking about:

Y’all think she’d be a better president than McCain?
I think she would be better than Obama.
Well, that’s a no brainer. Of course you would. Do you think she’d be a better president than McCain though?
Both McCain and Palin are progressives, both mavericks, both put people and country over party politics. Obviously McCain–at this point has more knowledge/experienece, which I have no doubt he’ll be quick and eager to share with her–that is not to discount Sara’s current executive accomplishment, knowledge of energy, etc. This would be a VP who is intensly involved in the administration. So who knows…perhaps in time, they might both get a chance.
Cineaste, I just wondered why you were interested in whether she would be better than McCain, as I feel sure you do not intend to vote for them. That is why I answered you the way I did.
I’m trying to see which part of the ticket appeals more to conservatives, Palin or McCain. Is this the bone conservatives have been wanting McCain to throw to them? They’ve certainty liked the taste of it so far.
Most of us are happy with both… As for me, I’m still trying to figure out, what attracts the liberals to a Chicago thug who fit right into the corrupt machine?
You seem to be in the know, Cineaste, help us out…
Liberals love Chicago thugs. It’s part of their genetic makeup. If you don’t suck blood and can stand the light of the sun, liberals won’t vote for you.
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. There is only one agent of change in this election and his name is Ron Paul. The rest are all owned–period.
Z - are you in Minneapolis for the Ron Paul convention?
Ron Paul has reason to be proud of his followers in Mn. (NOT). Looks like they have joined the thugs.
Nicely done, Governor Palin.
You mean Vice President Palin?
Wow, what a speech. VP Palin is right.
Actually, President Palin has a nice ring to it.
I was amazed (and impressed) by how she was able to hold it together emotionally.
I was on the verge of tears on more than one occasion during her remarks (talking about special needs children and their families, introducing McCain’s POW buddy).
Where women are more typically given to displaying emotion / emotionalism (don’t get excited, ladies…just a part of the beautiful way that God knit you together), it’s comforting to me as a voter to see her keep things so well in check during what had to be a very stressful hour in her life.
I believe she was a respectful candidate up until she aligned herself with McCain. What a disgrace. GOP Pawn like so many other conservatives (sheeple), duped into believing the lies. I have no respect for this woman now.
She would have been and excellent running mate with Paul, It’s a shame she’s gone and done this.
Neuwman sounds like a lover scorned.
She lost me when she talked about the U.S. mission in Iraq being a “task that is from God”. Puh-leeze.
Have you all read Ron Paul’s book? Outstanding.
I’d vote for her if it were a beauty pageant!
Zoner God told my cousins wife to leave him for another man also! So she says. Isn’t Satan referred to as “The Great Deceiver”?
I heard Keith Olbermann ripping her for her remarks on the war and the “task from God” statement. I can understand the criticism she’ll receive for making such a statement, but to label her as some sort of religious loony by mocking her beliefs of being Spirit-led, speaking in tongues, etc. like Olbermann did on his show seems no different than labeling Obama as a Muslim because of his Freudian slips (”my Muslim faith,” “I’ve visited 57 states”). I find both of these cases pretty ridiculous, but I guess if people want to make an issue out of Palin being on a mission from God, I’d much rather support the ticket that is working for God, rather than Allah.
All jokes aside, I do respect that Palin isn’t afraid inject a little religion into the McCain ticket. I won’t say that I agree one way or the other that God has given an endorsement of the U.S. role in the war (or any of the other stances she may take on issues), but I am encouraged by the idea that I can vote for a candidate who will pray and seek God’s guidance in making the decisions that will direct our nation. As a Christian, that’s one quality I hope to find in the candidate I vote for.
The “task from God” statement is the sort of rhetoric– or possibly even hubris– that has made much of the country want to just puke their guts out.
