Miers is Bush’s Supreme Court nominee
October 3rd, 2005Harriet Miers is Bush’s selection to replace Sandra Day O’Connor on the Supreme Court. In the blogosphere, Powerline calls the nomination a disappointment. Michelle Malkin isn’t happy either, and provides a nice summary of the reaction of other bloggers.

It seems that in these politically polarized times the main qualification for the Supreme Court is the lack of a judicial record. I wonder how this environment will effect the Court over a long period of time. I don’t get the impression that the President picked the most qualified candidate. I’m sure he felt that he had to choose a woman but I was hoping that he would have picked someone with more judicial experience.

In this sitation, I’d much rather have a Muslim who was a proven intellectual giant, a respected legal scholar, and proveably conservative than someone who apparently professed Christianity at one point but whose views are unknown and whose chief qualifications are being a Bush crony and the bathroom she uses.

The best possible outcome now is that the Republican members of the Judiciary committee reject her on the basis that she’s unqualified. MAKE Bush put Luttig or McConnell up there.
