NY Times calls for filibuster of Alito

January 26th, 2006

The New York Times describes Samuel Alito as holding “extreme views about the expansive powers of the presidency and the limited role of Congress” and says it would be “frightening” to have him on the Supreme Court. Thus, the paper is calling on Democrats to filibuster Alito’s nomination.

  1. Alito’s seat on the Supreme Court is in the bag. The Democrats know it and they can’t stand it. I have yet to meet a Dem who gives a scratch about “the expansive powers of the presidency and the limited role of congress”. The Dems know that with Alito on the bench the opportunity exists to overturn the high court’s rule on a woman’s protected right to murder her unborn child. If the “blues” don’t bark and growl about Alito, they may not get re-elected. That’s what they’re upset about….the possibility of having to get a real job when they’re voted out!

  2. I hope they do fillibuster. It will kill them in the next election.

Watching the Dems screech and holler on tv, along with considering what they always want to protect (abortion #1) makes one wonder how thinking people with convictions can still vote for any of them.

  4. Larry says:

Liberals wrote the book on the ‘expansive power of government’ so this is just so much smoke and mirrors. Their real fear is that Alito will help in undoing Roe. A fear, sadly, that I think is unfounded. Perhaps I’ll be pleasantly surprised but I doubt it.

I’m with Larry. As much as I’d love to see Roe reversed/overturned/undone, etc., I’ll be surprised if it happens soon.

  6. Steven says:

Why can’t newspapers just do what they do…write news…andd stop trying to influence the political system.

    Argh!

CIVIL WAR! Who’s going to with draw from the union first?

Ditto Tony! This is all about posturing.
