Questions for Mike Huckabee
April 19th, 2007
Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee has agreed to do an email interview with me. I’ll be sending him some questions, and he’ll send me his responses.
So, here’s your chance to ask Huckabee a question, as I’ll also be including questions from readers. If there’s something you’d like to ask him, leave your question in a comment. I can’t promise that I’ll include your question in the list of questions I send to him, but I’ll do my best.
I would like to know his opinion of Judge Roy Moore appealing to a higher authority in defying a court order to remove a copy of the Ten Commandments. Did Judge Moore use good logic in his interpretation of the law? Does Gods law supercede the constitution? Does a government official ever have legal standing to defy the US Constitution based on idea that the Constitution is based on God’s precepts?
Do you see any hope in a congressional reformation which will bring about a trusted government that is again for the people and not for vested interests?
If so, what is your role in this (as president) and would you care to comment on how your thoughts would be practically applied.

What are your views on affirmative action?
Realistically, what can you do to unite the nation under your leadership seeing how we are currently polarized? Understood, you cannot change minds, but you can be respectable and honorable… what will you do to this end?
It seems, according to the news, that we are losing some important intelligence information to foriegn spies from such places as communist China who is spending more on military buildup than they care to disclose. They are also controlling their currency instead of allowing the market to dictate prices. In addition to that, they are opposed to our current foriegn policies and almost always vote against us in the UN; how will you deal with China if you are elected as our president?
What are your thoughts on the U.N? Has it outlived its relevance? It would appear that the U.N. has no teeth and an unsure bark with threats of threats that amount to no follow through. (referring to the Iraq food for oil program and currently their dealings with N. Korea and Iran).
What is your view on Israel? What role does the U.S. play when it comes to Israel’s safety? Why?
It would appear that we had some countries going behind our back after the U.N. passed sanctions on Iraq with the food for oil scandal. Is this a time to be politically correct as to not be offensive and turn our back to that? How would you deal with that and how will you deal with that?
With the recent stats coming in from Austrailia on their new gun control law (which bands guns) showing that all types of crime has risen and with the historical backing showing what happens when the people are disarmed, what is your views on banning guns- any type of gun? Is there any statistics out there showing any good things that have come from a country banning citizens from owning guns?

I want to know when he will come to Bryan/College Station, Texas to discuss his platform.
Ask him if he favors giving benefits to illegal aliens.
I would like to hear his ideas on re-establishing our sense of national pride.
Ask him what he thinks about the Los Angeles Dodgers having the best record in baseball these first fifteen games into the season.
If he says “great,” then I guarantee a win in the California primary!
How will his faith affect how he runs his campaign and if he is elected president, how will his faith impact his presidency? I’m sure you can word it better than me of give it a better “twist”, Tim.
1. What practical steps would Mr. Huckabee take to reduce the number of abortions performed in America? Get beyond appointing judges and describe the specific policies that a Huckabee administration would pursue from the time he takes office.
2. As a 24-year-old worker, I am very concerned with the future of Social Security and Medicare. Anyone who is capable of simple math can see that, if left alone, these entitlement programs will be bankrupt by the time I reach retirement age. What is Mr. Huckabee’s plan to ensure that (1) the taxes I’m paying into the system now will benefit me when I retire, and (2) how will he achieve this without a massive tax increase? In addition, how will he succeed where Bush has failed in selling entitlement reform to the American people?
3. What actions would Mr. Huckabee take to limit the size and scope of the federal government? Specifically, would he promise to veto any spending bills containing anonymous “earmarks”?
4. What is his explanation for the Republicans’ huge loss in the last election, and what lessons has he learned from it? How would he apply those lessons if elected?
1. What is his suggested solution to the illegal immigration problem?
2. What is his opinion on socialized medicine?
Tim,
I would like for you to ask him something like this:
“How will you react If, and when, your opponents attempt to criticize your governing abilities because of a perceived bias due to your past leadership roles within the Southern Baptist denomination.”
A genuine response to this question would reveal a lot about how Mr. Huckabee’s faith affects his Worldview, additionally it would reveal a lot about his character. Just a thought.
I would like to hear his thoughts on H.R. 25 and S.B. 1025, also known as the Fair Tax bill.
How do you intend to get your name out there as a viable candidate? I’m not hearing anything anywhere about your campaign even in the more conservative media.
What would you do to stop abortion?
What would you do to regain control of our rapidly growing debt in this nation?
What would you do to reduce the size of the federal government and return the nation back to its people and out of the money grubbin hands of corporations?
Ask him about my guns and why police all around the nation are beefing up while law abiding citizens are stripped of the basic right to defense.
Why should I vote for him over Ron Paul?
If he does not receive the GOP nomination, will he run as an Independent? If not, will he be able to officially support the GOP favorites: Romney, Guiliani, or McCain?
As a candidate who claims a position of strict adherence to the Constitution does he believe there is a Constitutional basis for the government’s involvement in health care, education, postal services, meat-packing inspections, home and student loan programs, marriages, public housing, greenhouse emissions of any sort, building permits, etc. etc. etc… I think you get the picture. Feel free to add to this list.
Ask him what he believes about global warming and other environmental issues.
A couple of constitutional questions.
What does “The Judges, both of the supreme and inferior Courts, shall hold their Offices during good Behavior..” in article III mean in his opinion and what kind of behavior would he consider worthy of congress removing a Federal judge or Supreme Court justice from the bench? Would judicial usurption of the powers of the legislative branch qualify?
With regard to the 12th amendment:
“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”
Which powers currently being exercised by the Federal Government do you see to be in violation of this and what would you do to return those powers to the states?
As a strong proponent of the FairTax (as I am), how do you propose to convince congress to pass such legislation?
The code is used by every politician to gain favor from constituents and win votes. Thus, it will be very difficult to get the politicians to enact something that cuts off their lifeblood.
