    Ray Lankford anyone?

  2. Scott Gladin says:

I really can’t understand why Phil Mickelson is up there, I thought he was a pretty good guy. Also, Curt Schilling? I agree, I think that the whole ‘bloody sock’ thing was blown out pf proportion, but if that’s all you have on the guy, I think he’s in pretty good shape. He does a lot off the field for charities and such. I really have always liked him. Maybe it was a Yankee fan who wrote about that…
For me, I’d tell you that Barry Bonds would top my list…

  3. I’m surprised that NASCAR driver Tony Stewart didn’t make the list. What about Pete Rose? And I agree. Put Barry at the top of that list. What a jerk!

  4. Scott, I too don’t understand Mickleson being on the list. It seems like the last two lists Tim has published have had a “Phil” on it that no one understands why.

  5. Tim says:

They explain themselves pretty well in the story.

  6. I read the article. I can see where some of what is reported there may not endear him to other golfers, but to make him one of the 10 most hated? I don’t know. Maybe they were trying to be inclusive of all sports and just needed a golfer. I noticed that they left out hockey players though.

  7. Flash from the vast Redbird past…..Gary Templeton and Vince Coleman. There’s a couple of goobers!

  8. I think the article overlooked Norwegian, Pal Trulsen, who is known as a pushy bloke in the exciting world of curling.

  9. I thought Jeff Gordon would be the NASCAR rep and if anyone made it from the PGA it would be Tiger Woods. And where is Ron Artest? This is truly a strange list.

  10. Alex says:

Ummmm….. Ron Artest ought to make that list - pretty close to the top actually. Replace Curt Schilling with A-Rod. Maybe Ray Lewis?

If we’re dredging up the past you gotta think Diego Maradona, the cheating coke-head star of Argentina’s soccer team who won the 86 World Cup.

  11. Marty says:

There’s always a place near the top of my list for Michael Jordan.

  12. David B says:

If they “needed” golfers for the list, I would recommend Rori Sabbatini or Pat Perez….

  13. Brett says:

Jordan is at the top of the list of the most overly fawned over. Also, he is not the greatest basketball player of all time. Maybe 3rd.

Am I correct in reading that this list is of “active” athletes? So Rose, Jordan, etc. don’t apply, if that’s the case.

  14. “Active”, that would explain why Mike Tyson is not on here.

  15. Matt says:

Lleyton Hewitt is only hated when he plays in his home country. All tennis players express extra adreniline when they play in their home countries. Roddick does it at the US Open and Nadal plays to the crowd in Spain. Lleyton is mainly hated by the Argentines. Did I mention that they all get caught for banned substances and one player received an 8 year ban. Another one spit at him. So I would put pro Argentine male tennis players on the list. They have no friends.

  16. Michael Byers says:

    TONY STEWART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Scott Gladin says:

Uh oh, someone brought up Nascar again.
