Autistic student scores 20 points
February 24th, 2006Here’s a touching story about Jason McElwain, an autistic high school student who serves as manager for his high school basketball team. The team allowed him to suit up for Senior Night, and with his team up by 20 points with four minutes to play, the coach put him in the game.
McElwain proceeded to nail six three-pointers and score 20 points in the final four minutes. As you can imagine, the entire gymnasium went nuts. Watch the video, and smile.

I heard about this the other day - what an amazing story. But, I bet the coach was kicking himself while all this was happening, “Why didn’t I let him suit up before?” I couldn’t even get 20 points in four minutes….
What, did we all have this blog idea at the same time?
We actually had the story and some footage on our air early this week, but I just found video on that You Tube site that will make you weep like an Olympic ice dancer.
Here is the link to the video. It brought a tear to mine eye. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBYPaNc57Ik&search=autistic
As I was watching a TV report I said, “And now, from the makers of Rudy…”
As the report ended, the reporter said that the family had already been contacted by Disney.
