  1. It’s sad what they put that horse through for it to end this way…

  2. Newman says:

I wonder if any of him will end up in my dogs Purina?

  3. I always cringe when people call this a tragedy. No. A tragedy is when kids go to bed hungry. A tragedy is a teenager killed by a drunk driver. A tragedy is the untold mutitudes of children killed by abortions. A tragedy is a man who spends years in jail for a crime he did not commit. You get the idea.

Also, I hear people talk about Barbaro’s “courage” or “bravery” in the face of adversity. If animals can show us such courage, then what about other animals that we hunt and kill for sport. Can they show courage as well? I guess I’m just a little wary of assigning words of character to animals.

DallasMorningNews.com headlines its video link to the story as “Derby winner Barbaro a hero on track, in death”.

Hero? really? I guess when he was not running around a track he was a volunteer fireman saving kids from burning buildings. THIS WAS A HORSE!

  5. Crystal White says:

I certainly wouldn’t call Barbaro a “hero” or “courageous” nor would I call his death a tradgedy. I don’t really think that the suffering of this horse truly compares to hunting because a well placed shot ends an animals life in seconds. There are people who hunt for food and not just sport. My family has gone through times where we would have gone without meat in the winter if it weren’t for the duck, rabbit, and deer that we had in the freezer. (Please forego all the poor redneck jokes, I already admit that is what I am!) THis horse probably should have been put out of his misery when it became evident that his leg was not going to heal properly. It is sad that the horse has suffered because his owners thought they could make a profit from his stud fees.

  6. Newman says:

Wonder what horse tastes like anyway. I know smoked goat is pretty good! I’d eat a Barbaro burger! Anyway the horse was only a hero to those who bet on him and won. Any one ever eat horse before?

    meow

  7. Newman says:

One other note, a carefully placed spine shot on a deer and you have a great decoy to take at least one other doe!

  8. Newman says:

    meow

  9. Peter R. says:

I had horse in Italy. I was doing a college class on St. Francis of Assisi, and one night we had dinner at a Franciscan monestary. We were served what we thought was veal, but when someone asked one of the monks what we were eating, he pointed to a painting of a horse that was hanging on the dining room wall. A few of the girls promptly ran to the bathroom.

  10. Newman says:

    Was is good?

    meow

  11. Brett says:

    Hug a horse.
