Baseball happenings
October 29th, 2007So the Red Sox sweep the Rockies in one of the most boring World Series in a long time. Ho hum.
Alex Rodriguez is opting out of his monstrous contract. It’ll be interesting to see how many teams pursue him, as A-Rod and his agent Scott Boras obviously think he’ll command at least $30 million per season. Any team willing to take on that kind of contract can kiss winning goodbye.
It looks like Joe Girardi could be the next Yankees manager. An announcement is expected today.
A-Rod has never proven himself in the post-season, although he has incredible regular season numbers. MVP-yes. Payoffs- dud. As a reluctant Ranger’s fan, I am relieved that the albatross has been lifted from his insane $250 million contract.
It is time for owners to start truly standing up to Boras and his clan of overpaid players. I will be mad if another team gives in to a $30 million per year contract.
Truly bad form of team Boras to break the news last night.
As a Sox fan what hit me this morning is they have a better chance of repeating this next year than they did in 2005. Less free agents and better rookies and home grown players who will be with the Red Sox for a few years.
I’ve been a fan since 1980 and I never would have imagined they would win twice in my lifetime so I’m as happy as can be. Living in Texas, I won’t be able to make the parade this time but it was a great year. 1st place from April 18th. My daughter is a 5th generation Red Sox fan and at age 8 she has no idea, how good she has it.
Go Red Sox!
A co-worker of mine swears up and down that the Cubs will be signing A-Rod. But then again, he always swears the Cubs will be getting (fill in the name of any and all big name free agents here).
If the Cubs want to shell out $30 million per for A-Rod, they can be my guest. He’ll consume so much of their payroll that they won’t be able to fill any other holes.
Prediction: Unless it’s the Red Sox or Mets, whoever signs A-Rod won’t make the playoffs in 2008 or 2009.
I thought Soriano was already consuming a healthy portion of the Cubs’ payroll. And: Are they still paying Sammy?
I can assure you not all Cubs fans want to see A-Rod in a Chicago uniform … unless, perhaps, it’s a White Sox uniform.
And Renteria gets traded. Kinda saw that coming, but sad to see him go. Good guy, good ballplayer.
Yeah, gonna miss Edgar.
I’ll take A-Rod.
And I disagree about the playoff scenario with A-Rod. There are a number of teams that he would put over the top.
A-Rod is a virus…kinda like Ken Griffey, Jr.
They make the teams they play for worse, not better.
Players like this make themselves out to be bigger than the game. And NO player is bigger than the game.
The Cubs should make a push for ARod so they can team up the big post season flop of a player with the big post season flop of a team.
