Congrats to Peter Rieke
April 3rd, 2007Congratulations to Peter Rieke, who won our NCAA Tournament Challenge contest on ESPN. Peter’s 1,290 points edged Mark Goldman at 1,260 and Di Winson at 1,250.
It came down to the last game between Peter and me. Peter had Florida, and I had Ohio State.
Thanks to all who participated.
This is the first year I’ve ever picked the Final Four correctly. The crazy thing is, there’s still like 130,000 people ahead of me in the ESPN pool.
Tim,
You went against UF in football, and now in basketball. When are you going to learn how much better the SEC is than the Big-Ten? By the way, by my volume of comments on UF today can you tell that I am a little excited?

My Mom won the Benton Middle School pool among about 40 teachers. She also correctly picked Florida over Ohio State in the title game. I asked why she chose Florida and she said, “Because you live there.” I’m pretty sure she knew nothing about any of the teams except the Salukis. Another example of how much luck is involved in making these picks.
Are you telling me that the picks we made for for BASKETBALL?
Brett - right on. I routinely get beat in NCAA brackets by my wife, who picks “the teams with the coolest-sounding names.” Arg.
Wow, I came that close to winning! Do I get any kind of door prize?!
: )
I finished 4th in The Benton Evening News inter-office tournament (out of 37 competitors). That, too, is winner-take-all … which was almost won by our former office manager … who once filled out a bracket and picked Colgate to win a round or two because that’s the kind of toothpaste she uses!!
Well, this is certainly the closest I’ve come to winning a tournament prediction contest. I’ll gladly take second.
Missed it by THAT much!
Congratulations Peter.
