Cutler, Leinart, Young: Who do you take now?

September 20th, 2007

Interesting question at CBS Sportsline: One year later, which of the three QBs would you draft first, Matt Leinart, Vince Young or Jay Cutler?

  1. Laz says:

    Forever Young

  2. Kevin says:

    Young without a second thought

  3. Leinhart. Throws to 2 of the best WRs in the game and has a future HOF RB in the backfield = Most upside.

  4. Cutler. Good young corps of relievers. Solid running game. Great offensive coach.

  5. Chris says:

    Without question, Young.

Take a look at what he’s done with a pretty awful supporting cast; Imagine if he had receivers like Leinart.

  6. Mark G. says:

My wife grew up with Jay Cutler, I guess I’ll be partial to him.

  7. Rena says:

I have to admit that I’m a little biased, but I’m going with Cutler. He’s a southern Indiana native like myself.

  8. Cineaste says:

I picked Drew Brees in Tim’s league. Ouch! To answer the question, I’d take Cutler.

  9. Verne says:

Sorry I am a homer I would stick with Ben Roethlisberger. :-)

But if I had to pick out of those three I guess I would go with Vince Young he is the most athletic and can beat you with his legs and with his arm (sometimes)

I read the article when it was first published too. Very interested questions. I’m probably biased too since we get all the Broncos games as our regional action, but I’d have to say that I’m impressed with Cutler. He can make throws that shouldn’t be made, throwing off his back foot across his body still with plenty of zip on the ball. He made a throw today off his back foot to Marshall that went 49 yards while falling backwards practically! Plus, his game management really stands out when compared to Plummer (what a spaz!). He still makes the mistakes of a young quarterback in the league, but he has the swagger that you have to have to be great. Leinart is good, but I’m waiting to see him step up and make Arizona live up to what they are supposed to achieve every year. What a great pair of receivers, plus a great running back to have, but still every year fail to live up to expectations. Every year seems like this is Arizona’s year. I will give it to Matty though that this is just his second year (but how good can you be when you get benched for Warner and see him come in and lead the Cardinals back into the game?). I really can’t stand Young though. (Speaking of biased huh?) I just think he’s all smoke and mirrors way overrated. But, you have to give it to him, he knows how to win. I guess that’s saying the most important thing. I think its getting harder to evaluate the real talent of players in the age of fantasy football. The reality of the NFL is does he give you a chance to win, but the fantasy crowds want the stats. Young does win, although I don’t like him. And sure he’s good, but how much of his success can be attributed to their running game? Henry was awesome there last year to co-incide with their playoff push, and in the game against Jacksonville that Young “lead them to victory,” Brown had almost 200 yards on the ground. I guess I get tired of hearing about how awesome he is.

Cutler all the way!! I work at Vandy and I know him. I watched him since he was a freshman. I remember watching a game against Rutgers. Jay was a junior then. He threw the ball in the air ( I measured it) 71 yards! The kid is tough as nails, he and a teammate wrestled an alligator - true story!

    Godspeed Cutler!
