Dungy’s son found dead
December 22nd, 2005The 18-year-old son of Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy was found dead in his apartment. To echo Alex’s words, suddenly the Super Bowl and an undefeated season aren’t so important.
Keep the Dungy family in your prayers.
UPDATE: Here’s a story from earlier this year in which Dungy talks about his Christian beliefs.
About ten years ago, I heard Dungy speak at an FCA event and he was crystal clear on the gosepl. He opened the Word and gave an excellent exposition. I think the crowd was stunned because they were use to the typical man-centered-sports-gospel-talk. I am thankful for coaches like Dungy and I hope he will find the comfort in Christ that he talked about that night ten years ago.
I am so saddened and stunned by this news. Despite a sense of “comfort” knowing Tony Dungy is a man of faith, there can be no pain worse than losing a child - and near Christmas time as well. My prayers will be with the Dungy family.
Often when a suicide occurs, people lament “This is not the person we knew.” or “He was just not acting in himself when he did this.” The tragedy on top of tragedy is that this pain and hurt was there all along, we just didn’t see it. I pray that somehow God will bring healing to the Dungy family and to those who still suffer in silence.
