End of an era: Dodgertown is no more
March 18th, 2008
The best spring training facility in the world is no longer home to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Yesterday the Dodgers played their final game at Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Fla. The facility has been the Dodgers’ spring training home for 61 years.
I’m going to miss the place. At least I can say that my last experience there was an interesting one.
Tim,
I was at the last 5 Dodgertown games…sad to see it end.
After the final game Dodger great Carl Erskine signed autographs for a long, long time. Apparently he’s an active member at FBC Anderson IN (according to some folks I met at the game), if you were interested in taking that angle on a story.
He threw the first pitch in the first game at Holman Stadium, and played the Natl Anthem on a harmonica for the last game.
Florida’s spring training will never be quite the same.
Ah the memories.
