Irvin: Drug pipe belonged to a friend
November 28th, 2005Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin was charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia after police found a drug pipe in his car. Irvin claims the pipe belonged to a friend whom he’s trying to help deal with a drug addiction.
Police arrested Irvin on an outstanding warrant for speeding when he was pulled over for speeding on Friday. Irvin said he thought he had paid the previous ticket.
An analyst for ESPN, Irvin will continue to appear on the network.
Let’s see here: The pipe isn’t mine, it was a friend’s. I thought I paid the speeding ticket.
Irvin is either:
1. Lying through his face
2. Incredibly stupid
3. Both
Right now I’m leaning toward option number 3. What’s your pick?
I lean toward Choice No. 2 … but how can anyone know, for sure, with this guy? I want to give him the benefit of the doubt as far as the lying part, but, given his history with drugs, how can you?
I found this part of the article particulary interesting:
Irvin was a member of three Super Bowl championship teams with the Cowboys. Asked how this kind of publicity might affect his chances of induction into the Hall of Fame, Irvin said his helping his friends is more important.
“The whole thing means such a great deal for me, and hopefully one day it will be there,” Irvin said. “But my friends and my family mean a little more. I would rather be helping them, even if it hurts that.”
That’s almost funny: Just a few weeks ago, I was listening to FOX Sports Radio, and Irvin clearly believes he should be in the Hall of Fame, along with his pals Troy and Emmitt. And I am not certain how Michael’s stats measure up to theirs, but I have to think they are comparable.
So, hmm, which one of these things is not like the other?
Sounds like Michael watches “Cops” to find his excuses.
Without question it’s #3. This bozo has been involved in too many similar incidents for this one to just be a misunderstanding.
3.
This friend of his is going to have to come forward and say, “Yes, it’s my pipe ok?”
Otherwise Irvin is going to take he fall for this.
He has a history w/drugs, safe bet is on #3.
