Line drive kills minor league coach

July 23rd, 2007

What a sad story. From AP:

Tulsa Drillers coach Mike Coolbaugh died Sunday night after being struck in the head by a line drive as he stood in the first-base coach’s box during a Texas League game with the Arkansas Travelers, police said.

Coolbaugh once played for the St. Louis Cardinals. He leaves behind a wife and two young sons, and his wife is expecting another child.

I saw the story this morning, but didn’t know anything about him. What do you think about making base coaches wear batting helmets?

I heard about that on ESPN this morning what a sad story.

Leland, I never thought about base coaches wearing batting helmets. It is not a bad thought however I do not ever see it happening.
