Marlins to Burnett: Take a hike
September 27th, 2005
Take a good look at A.J. Burnett in that Florida Marlins hat, because he won’t be wearing it for much longer. After Burnett sharply criticized the Marlins’ organization, the Marlins sent him home for the rest of the season.
“It’s depressing around here,” Burnett said after Sunday’s game, which was his sixth loss in a row. “There’s nothing positive around here. There’s nothing positive on the staff now.”
Perhaps Burnett should have held his tongue a bit longer. Through Sunday’s game, he had pitched 209 innings on the season. A $50,000 bonus would have kicked in had he reached 210 innings.
