NBA suspends Stoudemire, Diaw for leaving bench

May 16th, 2007

So what’s your take on the NBA’s decision to suspend Phoenix’s Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw for leaving the bench after Robert Horry clobbered their teammate, Steve Nash?

I think it’s time for a rule change in the NBA. An automatic suspension for leaving your seat, even if you return to it and don’t get involved in the fracas, makes no sense. It’s a shame the NBA felt the need to butt into such a pivotal series.

I can’t understand why the NBA bigwigs would want to enforce the letter of the law in this situation when it means upsetting the integrity of the best series they currently have going. Don’t they want to put the best product out there that they possibly can?

This is truly one of the dumbest rules in all of sports. It’s just a natural reaction for players to come to the defense of one of their own who gets clobbered. That’s especially true when the cheap shot is given to a team’s best player and especially when that player is one of the smallest guys out there.

It annoys me that the cheap shot came from a San Antonio player but the Spurs end up getting the better deal out of this.

NBA? I don’t think I’ve watched a game since Michael Jordin was with the Bulls. Shows how much the NBA can keep your interest.

More “zero tolerance” run amuck in my opinion. Saves the higher ups from making hard decisions. Also leads to the pacification of an America that would stand by and watch a 91 year old man get beaten.

Spoken like a true baseball fan. Can you imagine this being applied to MLB.

  5. This is just a stupid decision. Do these people not know that there is such a thing a videotape? Why do they check their brains at the door and not use some judgement here? This is one rule that will be re-examined at the end of the season.

  6. By indirectly knocking out Pheonix’s 2nd best player, Robert Horry may have made yet another series winning “big shot.”

I agree that rule needs to be moderated, although I applaud the NBA’s attempt to get tough on preventing possible melees from getting started.

Where are the suspensions stemming from the Jazz/Warriors series? Richardsons hit on Okur and Davis’s hit on Fisher were both harder and both had an intent to hurt. I agree with slapping Horry with the flagarent foul, but I think the severity of the foul was somewhat overblown —

Is there a difference in the fouls, other than one involved a two time MVP?
