Notre Dame point guard’s mommy whines about his suspension

January 23rd, 2007

Notre Dame suspended point guard Kyle McAlarney for the semester after his arrest for marijuana possession. Good move on the part of the Irish, and I’m glad they take discipline seriously.

Unfortunately, McAlarney’s mommy isn’t happy about it. Said Janice McAlarney:

All I know is I’m ashamed of how they did this. … I’m ashamed of the university. My son is a great kid. He did not deserve this. The punishment did not fit the crime.

Oh, boo hoo hoo. Sniffle, sniffle.

Her son was arrested for drug possession, and she’s ashamed of Notre Dame for suspending him. Yeah, makes a lot of sense.

  1. Sadly, it may make sense of why her son has moved in this direction if this is how she sees discipline. Way to go ND (which is a phrase that does not often come from me!).

  2. The Zoner says:

I will be going to the ND/DePaul game in a few weeks. It will be my son’s first college B-Ball game ever and my first game this year. I’ll have to euphemistically heckle him about this.

    I loathe Notre Dame.

    Go Blue Demons!

  3. I’ve found that mothers’ first impulse is to defend their offspring at all costs. I wonder if she realizes that she is contributing to her son’s deliquency.

In their neighborhood, most likely, a lil “weed” is not seen as truly criminal or immoral.

I know of a ministerial student who has struggled with MJ while at his Baptist college (definitely NOT UU) — and though he sees it as a concern, it is the same as a beer to him.

My, my, how we all are shaped by our encultured experience. I could not understand his perspective, but it helped me to remember that sin does dull & blind over time.
