One pair of underwear for an entire road trip?

July 30th, 2006

Here’s an interesting story about some of the items Major League Baseball players pack with them when they’re on the road.

And yes, Detroit Tigers closer Todd Jones takes only one pair of underwear with him — the pair he’s wearing.

“I don’t pack any underwear,” he said. “I wear it into the park, it gets washed every day and I wear it out of the park. I guess that’s weird. I’m not proud of it, but I’m cutting down on space.”

Well, I guess if it gets washed everyday… why not?

  2. I wonder if he’s had that underwear since junior high.

I’m a pretty light packer too. If I can’t fit everything that I need for a 4 or 5 day vacation into a bookbag, I’m packing too heavy.

I used to travel via black trash bag. Then Southwest finally got fed up with my check-in “baggage” and they told me that to fly again I would have to start using real luggage. That is when I bought my first duffle bag and still use it for traveling today.

Touching story, it put everything into perspective. I give it two big toes up. :)

So, where does he “sit” when they’re being washed? Or has he figured out a way to keep that towel from falling off?

  6. Scott Gladin says:

Well, it’s probably while he’s in practice or playing a game. He’s wearing a different piece of equipment during those times.

I really don’t think I needed to know that. I’m sure Jone’s teammates appreciate that as well.
