Portis, Samuels defend Vick’s dog fighting
May 22nd, 2007Washington Redskins players Clinton Portis and Chris Samuels defended Michael Vick on Monday by ridiculing the notion that dog fighting is considered a crime.
In an interview with WAVY-TV, Portis said that if the Atlanta Falcons quarterback is charged and convicted of being involved in a dog fighting operation, then authorities would be “putting him behind bars for no reason.”
“I don’t know if he was fighting dogs or not,” Portis said. “But it’s his property; it’s his dogs. If that’s what he wants to do, do it.”
Portis said dog fighting is a “prevalent” part of life.
Portis later issued a statement that said, “In the recent interview I gave concerning dog fighting, I want to make it clear I do not take part in dog fighting or condone dog fighting in any manner.”
No, of course not, Clinton. How would we ever get that idea?
I think dog fighting is reprehensible, but it’d be interesting to see about 10-15 pit bulls have a crack at Portis.
Something tells me that Roger Goodell is going to get to him first …
University of Miami Education speaking loud and clear on that statement –
Yeah, Portis is an idiot. this shows why many atheletes should do themselves a favor and NOT TALK. My favorite part was when he said “What a person does in the privacy of their own home…” and the reporter was like “It’s a felony!” what an idiot.
Right Nick. And then Portis said something like “Well it can’t be that bad of a crime.”
Portis and Vick are both idiots
for the only time in my whole life i am now wishing i was not a redskins fan. i am going to have a very hard time cheering for portis while he is trying to help the skins win games this season. i will still cheer for the skins and always will but portis has now tainted my love for the skins. maybe he will be out of the game for some reason between now and then. i can only hope. either way betts can fill his shoes, we dont need portis on the skins team. i will only be hoping someone takes him outta the game when i see him play from now on. i hope vicks and portis both go down like the scum they are.
How can anyone with a conscience still watch these freakin’ morons play football? I’ve treated many dog fighting victims and I know the people who fight them are NOT “nice, community-minded” individuals. They are hard, mean people who also think it’s perfectly ok to slap their women around if they talk back.
Why doesn’t the NFL grow a spine and make it a rule that no one convicted of a violent felony will be allowed to play?
If I were wealthy, I’d be willing to pay someone to remove Portis, Vick and Samuels all three from pro football.
