Rank your favorite sports
February 21st, 2007I was talking to Leland yesterday, and we had a short conversation about our favorite sports. I thought it might make for an interesting blog topic.
Here’s how I’d rank my favorite sports:
1. Baseball
2. NFL
3. College football
4. Golf
5. College basketball
6. Horse racing (Triple Crown races)
7. NBA
8. Hockey
9. Tennis
10. NASCAR WWE
During high school and college, college basketball would have been number two on my list, and maybe tied for first. But for some reason I haven’t followed it as much over the past few years.
1. NFL
2. Baseball
3. College football
4. Horse racing
5. NBA
6. College basketball
7. Tennis
8. Golf
9. Hockey
10. nascar
If college football would every straighten out the debacle known as the BCS it would probably move up on my list. College basketball would be higher if students actually stayed around for three or four years instead of jumping to the pros.
I’m really not much of a basketball fan but I ranked it higher than those other sports because I NEVER watch anything from 7 to 10 on my list. I guess that would put them all in a tie for last but I still enjoyed putting nascar in the last spot.
1. NFL / MLB
3. College Football
4. College Basketball
5. NBA
5. Stopped caring for the NHL during the strike.
6. What’s NASCAR?
1. NFL
2. NCAA Basketball–SIU!!!
3. NCAA Football
4. MLB
5. X Games type stuff.
6. Golf
7. Hockey-Not so much on TV, but love watching it live.
8. NASCAR- I won’t watch a race on my own, but my brother-in-law keeps trying to turn me into a believer.
9. Does “Pros vs. Joes” count?
10. NBA
I gave soccer two chances. Both were “Champion of the World” games where they played for 4 hours to a 0-0 tie and decided the game by kicking at each other’s goal. No thanks.
Oh, and to the folks at ESPN…I would rather watch log rolling and timber sports than the World Series of Poker. Actually, I would rather watch curling than poker. Poker is NOT a sport!
1. UT football
2. UT football

I’ve made a distinction on viewing format. Some sports I enjoy seeing in person, but wouldn’t watch on TV and don’t really “follow”. I just enjoy experiencing a game (or match) in person.

4-10 … don’t really care, seems i’m to busy for the three of those. Baseball has lost me due to the money, lack of loyality, lack of great American players I can name, and many, many reasons which both owners and players are to blame. Pro Basketball - well, I don’t even recognize the sport anymore, whats travelling,,,,4-5 steps now, can anyone shoot jump shots, or play defense…..
Sorry Tim for the rant, i’m new to your site, keep up the good work.
Alex
Thanks for visiting, Alex. You’re never going to catch any grief from me for ranting. I do it quite often myself. One of these days I’ll have to compile my Greatest Rants list.
Is it just me, or did Bill N. differentiate between “the Cubs” and “pro baseball”?
Tim…it might be more fun to let your readers compile YOUR greatest rants list!
hahahahahahaaha! Business meetings!!!!!
Ours is tonight . . . but should be quick and uneventful.
Tony, good eye on the Cubs/professional distinction! Hahahah!

Thanks, Tony. ‘preciate that. With Lou at the helm, who knows what will happen. It might get more exciting than the end of the daytona 500.
I’m with you on that one, Bill.
The Cubs SIGNING Lou was more exciting than the end of the Daytona 500 (yawn).
Wouldn’t it be great if the Cards and the Cubbies split the regular season series and the division title came down to the Sept 14-16 set between these Central division foes?
Look like ole Abner’s done it again!

Would #7 be mullet carving? j/k
I just feel compelled to point out that if poker is going to be considered a sport, then NASCAR has to be the granddaddy of all sports.
I’m just sayin’…
I would love to have a mullet one day. I’d make it a 2-week a year thing if I could.
