If you watched the NBA draft last night, feel free to discuss the results here. The Toronto Raptors with the first pick took Italian Andrea Bargnani.

Really glad to see the Missouri Valley get another boost with Bradley U’s Patrick O’Bryant going in the top 10. Since I’m not a big NBA fan I can’t say that I’ll follow his progress, but mid-major programs (like it or not, the classification will remain) can only benefit from his success.

Here’s what my old regional paper (Tim, you’ll know it) has to say about O’Bryant. BTW, the guy is a sophomore.

  3. Jerry West made a gutsy, perhaps foolish, trade deal with Houston for Rudy Gay. The Grizzlies give up one of the top swing men in the league in Shane Battier. I hate to see Shane go but this team needed shaking up after 2 years of gettting swept in the playoffs. Gay has tremendous potential. It will be interesting to see how he develops.

My only big question is, how come Isaiah Thomas was not fired after last year? And what was he thinking picking Balkman in the fist round? If Balkman doesn’t pan out, will ANYone hire Isaiah again?

Here in Chicago we love Isiah! Not only did we get the #2 pick from them, we also hold the right to swap picks with them next year. Assuming that’s a lottery pick, the Bulls would have a chance at Greg Oden. We’ve swindled them twice now. Thanks Isiah!
