Toms owns up to rules infraction

July 15th, 2005

David Toms disqualified himself from the British Open when he decided he had violated the rules. Apparently, on the 17th hole, Toms thinks he hit a moving ball.

“That would carry an automatic two-shot penalty,” said a Royal and Ancient spokesman. “So he was disqualified for signing for an incorrect score. I don’t think anybody else noticed — he called it on himself.”

Quite a classy move on Toms’ part. The infraction was obviously minor, and nobody would have ever known, but he took responsibility for his actions nonetheless. This is integrity in action.

    Tim,
Having met David Toms in 1999, his actions and character does not suprise me one bit. He is a man that puts the “I” in integrity. Great Site!!
    David

  2. That’s the thing that separates golf from other sports. Tennis used to bethis way until the days of McEnroe. Golf is indeed the last of the “gentlemen’s” sports.

    David,

Any idea if Toms is a Christian?

Not sure, this was before my name was written in the Lamb’s book of life.
