Unbelievable — Cardinals sign Ponson
December 21st, 2005The St. Louis Cardinals signed pitcher Sidney Ponson to a one-year deal. Yeah, this is the kind of guy you want on your team — one who just served five days in prison for drunk driving and who previously served 11 days in jail for punching a judge.
That’s without even mentioning that he stinks as a pitcher.
This just makes my blood boil. Excuse me while I go step outside to cool off.
Thanks to Owen Seaton for the tip.
HAHAHAHAHAHA
I can hear it now…. Ponson comes out on the field and the speakers around the stadium crackle with—–WILD THING!!!!! (sorry, Major League flashback)
Oh…
my…
gosh…
Well, now I know what to get myself for Christmas: a PONSON jersey. Gimme a break. I don’t know how to type the angry noises I’m making right now. This guy better shape up, or they better ship him off somewhere for an outfielder. Sheesh.
If the Cards GM had asked my opinion………
I would have placed one stipulation in the contract:
He has six starts at the start of the season (assuming
he even makes the team) to prove himself.
If he is stinking up the place the Cards would have the right to release him outright (before Memorial Day) and not pay him the remainer of the contract.
But he didn’t ask me……….
Perhaps Dave “The Former Catcher who Became, allegedly, a Pitching Guru” Duncan can turn him around and he will become a productive pitcher. Or I could hold out hope of inheriting one million dollars. Neither seems likely.
I got to thinking about this, and maybe it won’t be so bad. Ponson will probably end up in the slammer somewhere before the season even starts, so maybe he’ll never wear a Cardinals uniform.
Ponson would be an excellent choice for the Cubs. He could stink their clubhouse up and then they could blame him for another terrible season. They could even connect him to some curse.
I agree with Jones. This is the kind of guy the Cubs should be pursuing since he fits in so well with a loser image/organization.
