What a game
February 3rd, 2008A super game for the Super Bowl. Eli Manning’s 33-yard pass to David Tyree late in the game was one of the best plays I’ve ever seen.
Looks like Plaxico Burress wasn’t so crazy after all for his prediction of a 23-17 Giants win. Said Brady in response to Burress: “We’re only going to score 17 points? OK. Is Plax playing defense? I wish he had said 45-42 and gave us a little credit for scoring more points.”
Maybe Burress was in a generous mood, Tom.
Congrats to the Giants for a great win.
That was great!
One reason I don’t like the Patriots is the lack of class. Some of them don’t seem to be able to handle losing. Coach leaves before teh game is officially over! Brady goes the locker room without greetign Manning, just like he did last year when defeated by the Colts. No sportsmanship, no class.
One of the best 4th quarters I’ve seen. It ranks right up there with the St. Louis Rams/Tennessee Titans Super Bowl.
Despite being a Tom Landry Dallas Cowboys fan, I’m okay with the Giants winning because of the Mannings. Eli really grew up a lot this season.
Belichek was just pitiful in the post-game interview. No class. He was actin g like the whole team had been lost in a plane crash rather than losing a game. Or did he realize what a terrible job he did of preparing his players. Maybe he should have done some better scouting of the Giants during the playoffs. Maybe watch how the defense played.
I concur, guys. An amazing Super Bowl.
Here is what was interesting to me: At half time, the hadn’t been any scoring in a while (no one had scored since the first 2 drives of the game), and it was a defensive battle, but it was still sooo exciting. Usually the defensive battle-type games with little scoring tend to be boring, but this one wasn’t.
Yes, the Eli scramble followed by the Tyree catch was awesome. It was also awesome to see Brady get knocked on his butt so much.
Here are some great quotes from the Gene Wojciechowski article on ESPN.com:
“They were inviting us to their parties after the game,” said Giants wide receiver Amani Toomer. “They showed us no respect.”
If that’s true, then the Patriots are dumber than ever thought possible. It’s bad enough they couldn’t block, couldn’t run, couldn’t throw, couldn’t catch, couldn’t tackle and couldn’t even try a 49-yard field goal when it counted. But to treat the Giants as though their defeat was a foregone conclusion was football suicide.
and…
The fact is the Patriots were out-everythinged by the Giants. Brady, the human grass stain, was sacked five times. And when he wasn’t sacked, he was knocked to the ground. He spent more time on the turf than fertilizer.
Brady said his injured ankle wasn’t a problem. He’s right. The problem was that the New England offensive line had a meltdown on the worst possible night. Tom Petty could have pass protected better.

So, how much fun would it be to see a Super Bowl between Peyton Manning’s Colts and Eli Manning’s Giants?
I’m glad to see these guys living up to the “hype.” It can’t be easy, but they’ve both shown they are pretty darn good quarterbacks.
I didn’t care, going into the game, which team won but found myself rooting for the Giants because of the whole upset thing. Seemed to me that they outplayed the Patriots all game long; still, when Randy Moss caught the TD pass late, I really though New England was going to be able to squeak by … which would’ve been a shame, really, because New York was the better team in this game.
And: They proved it.
