What’s right about sports
December 12th, 2006Gene Wojciechowski struggled over his vote for the FedEx Orange Bowl/Football Writers Association of America Courage Award, for good reason — there are so many who are so deserving. In his column, Wojo runs down a list of some of the candidates. Good stuff.

Man, that’s a tough call. I guess it is a football award? I was going to suggest Floyd Landis, turning in the performance of a lifetime, having those cheese eating surrender monkeys known as the French accuse him of cheating, losing your job, your friends, your crown, etc, but still holding his head up high.
But compared to some of the guys mentioned in Wojo’s article, he is a slacker.
“Southern Illinois finished 9-4 and reached the quarterfinals of the Division I-AA playoffs. Afterward, SIU coach Jerry Kill told reporters they’d learn from the loss and do better in 2007. Memo to Jerry: You can’t do better than surviving a cancerous kidney tumor and fatigue-related seizures.”
Well, there’s my vote!!!!
