Wynen still hoping to compete in Olympics
January 12th, 2006My column this week is about snowboarder Luke Wynen, who’s hoping to qualify for the Winter Olympics. A knee injury has made him a long shot, but he’s not ruling it out.

Totally unrelated comment, Tim. The Sox just signed Julian Tavarez to our pen. What should we expect?
Someone who puts pine tar under the bill of his cap and breaks his hand by punching a telephone.
Seriously, Tavarez is a decent pitcher — but I’m not sure how well he’ll be able to handle the increased scrutiny he’ll find in Boston. He’s a bit of a head case.
Great. That’s all we need. Like a Spanish Byung Hung Kim, it sounds like. Maybe he won’t be able to flip us off with the broken hand.
